INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN

SUMMARY

The INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN combines knowledge of mechanical technology with knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits to install, repair and maintain electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Install, set up and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment as directed and assists others with electrical equipment.
  • Install, operate, maintain, test and troubleshoot all types of electrical utilities and production equipment, including lubrication and periodic servicing.
  • Possess and use knowledge of Plant Electrical Distribution System and power requirements.
  • Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment.
  • Detect malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replace damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools.
  • Replace faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices, using hand tools. Replace electric motor bearings and rewire motors.
  • Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards, using electronic test equipment and hand tools.
  • Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage tester.
  • May plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Works within Company guidelines and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or recognized equivalent. Four (4) years of electrical and mechanical experience with good knowledge of electrical codes. May be required to hold electrician's license.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Some computer experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to read and follow technical instructions and apply mechanical principles. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Abilities to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching in all areas to inspect products and raw materials.
  • Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
  • Hear and understand all verbal communication whether it be face to face or via telephone.
  • See and understand all written communication.
  • Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to inspect pipe and raw materials.
  • Walking through, under and around equipment with a clearance of 30".
  • Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure yourself or fellow employees. (i.e., power saws, drills, hammers, presses, latches, etc.)
  • Sight capability to safely operate at arm’s length machinery and power and or hand tools needed to accomplish the requirement of the job assignments for this position.

  • Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gasses, high heat, or explosives. Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, and dusts. Subject to oils and other cutting fluids.
