Compass, Inc., a progressive non-profit agency supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) located in Beltsville, Md., is seeking a highly skilled, self-starter for the position of Housing Support Coordinator. This position is full-time and reports to the Director of Properties and Vehicles. This is professional case management work involving assistance in locating and accessing community living options for persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families which will promote community involvement, enhance quality of life, and provide support and accessibility throughout the life span, This position is a hybrid position between working in office and working from home, as well as working in the field and directly interacting with people supported, family members, and Compass direct support professionals, house managers, program coordinators, and small groups. All activities must support the mission and strategic goals and objectives of Compass.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide Housing Support Services as defined in the Maryland Medicaid Waiver
  • Maintain and expand knowledge of housing resources
  • Maintain and share information with stakeholders, provide education and training to promote individuals making their own choices regarding housing and having control over their own homes
  • Provide technical assistance to individual planning teams working to locate homes in locations of the individual’s choice
  • Educate individuals, families, guardians, and CCS workers on trends and developments regarding housing for people with IDD
  • Educate landlords about the benefits of renting to people who have IDD and educate people with IDD how to be good neighbors
  • Work with individuals, families, service providers, and CCS workers to access resources for modifying existing homes to meet accessibility needs
  • Facilitate and participate in local collaborative teams to address housing needs of individuals with IDD

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services related field. One or more years of experience providing housing support services to people with IDD or a similar population. Must have demonstrated knowledge with prior experience preferred of local community housing resources and services for people with IDD. Must be familiar with Coordination of Community Services (CSS) methods, principles and techniques and technical knowledge of information management systems, including LTSS. Demonstrated ability to support people with IDD using a coach approach to make decisions about services and supports related to their housing transition plan. Must have driver’s license, and reliable vehicle for transportation. Up to date COVID-19 vaccination is also required. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and have a keen interest in improving the quality of life for people supported by Compass, Inc.

Compensation and Work Conditions: 52K-57K to start depending on qualifications, excellent benefits. Hours of work are typically 9a-5p. Hybrid remote work from home with some days in the office or in the field. Must have reliable own transportation for visiting potential housing sites. Mileage reimbursed. Must be able to sit for extended periods, bend, pull, push, and lift up to 25 pounds (lifting is infrequent.)
