ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

Assists the AVP Academic Affairs & Dean of Health Sciences in the development, evaluation, and revision of the program curriculum. She/he is responsible for planning, implementing and assessing curriculum and student outcomes. The Program Director is assigned to the Occupational Therapy Assistant program as a full time core program staff member and is responsible for the overall running of the program, including the achievement and maintenance of accreditation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads the departmental or unit level planning process in alignment with the Institutional Strategic Plan, ensuring meaningfully engagement of staff members in each step of the process and facilitates the assignment of ownership for each activity related to the departmental plans and ensures that tasks are carried out as expected.
  • Collaborates with other departmental heads to ensure that overlapping or related initiatives are coordinated.
  • Participates in the Institutional Strategic Planning process as requested.
  • Assesses the achievements of departmental plans annually, formally reports results to supervisor, and participates in the college wide review of departmental plans as requested.
  • Represents the OTA program to the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) of The American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc.
  • Coordinates with the Dean to ensure the program achieves and maintains accreditation.
  • Coordinates with the Dean when planning, evaluating, budgeting for, and selecting faculty and staff for the OTA program.
  • Guides the activities related to teaching and learning including, but not limited to: curriculum development, instructional planning, student evaluation and records, student recruitment and retention, student advising and placement, classroom management, interpersonal relations, promotion of safety in all aspects of program activities, and purchasing of supplies and equipment.
  • Researches, advocates and participates in professional development experiences.
  • Maintains professional skills and credentials.
  • Participates on college committees, taskforces, and working groups.
  • Provides classroom instruction in OTA Program.
  • Maintains consistent, purposeful communications with students through office hours, email and telephone.
  • Develops and maintains meaningful industry, community, and clinical partnerships and relationships with regional, state, and national organizations, which benefits the OTA program and discipline.
  • All other duties as required by the Dean.

This is a 12-month per year position. In order to ensure the program director has sufficient time and support to direct the occupational therapy assistant program, including managing faculty and staff, mentoring faculty and staff and ensuring initial and continued accreditation requirements, the directors time will be dedicated to the following activities as follows:

Directing Occupational Therapy Assistant Program/Administrative Responsibilities: 50% of time

Teaching: 40% of time

Clinical Practice: 10 % of time

As this is a 12-month per year position percentages of time will not be expected to divided per week by the percentages listed above, rather they are divided across the entire year. For example, during the second Summer session, the program might not be assigned a teaching load, therefore 90% of the work time would be dedicated to Program Direction and Administrative Responsibilities. Conversely, the Spring semester, might be an especially heavy academic time for occupational therapy assistant students and the program director might be expected to spend 30% of work time completing Administrative duties and 60% of work time teaching.

EDUCATION:

  • Masters degree required, awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education which is not limited to a Masters in Occupational Therapy.
  • Initially Certified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant who is licensed and credentialed according to the regulations in the state of Pennsylvania.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of documented experience in the field of Occupational Therapy, which must include: Clinical practice as an Occupational Therapist or an Occupational Therapy Assistant; administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting; and understanding of and experience with Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.
  • Demonstrated experience working with accreditation standards/requirements preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing/revising curriculum preferred.
