Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The Research Assistant, under general supervision, participates and assists in the administration, coordinating, implementation and close out of research projects and departmental initiatives. The Research Assistant is responsible for supporting the logistic and administrative aspects of research projects and departmental initiatives. The Research Assistant ensures that all study activity is in accordance with the guidelines, instructions and specifications as outlined in the research protocol. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with MCHS policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Assists and supports study team in the administrative implementation of a research project to ensure successful completion of project goals.
2. Answers and initiates contact with potential research participants through phone and emails, assisting in the recruitment and relationship building, arranging study visits and providing instructions to meet the goals of the study.
3. Responsible for quality record retention according to ICH GCP guidance and internal standard procedures.
4. Abstracts or collects data from research participants and enters information into the designated forms/database to comply with research protocols.
5. Conducts possibly sensitive interviews regarding health conditions, personal risk factor information, and participant values and preferences at times convenient to the participant either by telephone or face-to-face.
6. Models excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills.
7. Maintains professional relationships with participants, research investigators, research/clinical staff, and other collaborators.
8. Participates in formal and informal study related meetings to report issues that may affect compliance with research protocols and regulatory guidelines.
9. Participates in activities designed to improve organizational performance.
10. Maintains inventory of supplies or equipment and prepares kits and/or field paperwork under the direction of study team to ensure the appropriate items are available when necessary.
11. Establishes work priorities and effectively balances varying workloads of different research projects and departmental initiatives.
12. Certifies work time monthly for Time and Effort Reporting as required by internal and federal policies.
13. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required:
  • Completion of 30 college credits in a physical, biological, social science, or related field OR
  • High school diploma AND one year related experience required, including customer service and clerical functions.
Preferred/Optional: Completion of 30 college credits in a physical, biological, social science, or related field and experience in a medical or research field.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required:
  • Human Subjects Protection and Good Clinical Practice training through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) within 90 days of hire.
  • Other Certifications/Licenses as listed per the department the position resides in.
Preferred/Optional:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
  • Flexible schedule options available (ex. 4 - 10 hour days/wk)
  • Partial remote work option available
