The Rescue Mission is seeking a fulltime Building Services Manager to work on our Main Campus in Syracuse, NY. This position works Monday through Friday 8am - 4:30pm and participates in the rotating Facilities emergency on-call schedule. The Building Services Manager is responsible for maintaining buildings and grounds for the Syracuse Emergency Shelter and Crossroads Adult Care Facility. This position entails daily and weekly inspections to determine upkeep of the facilities is maintained and will oversee maintenance and repairs of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, painting, and other building systems. The Building Services Manager is responsible for scheduling maintenance, cleaning, repairs, renovation projects and grounds upkeep. This position will provide direction to building services staff and will work closely with vendors and contractors to meet the needs of the department.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and develops staff by recruiting, selecting and orienting employees; developing, implementing and coordinating an initial and ongoing training schedule for new hires and current employees; coaching and disciplining employees; delegating authority.
  • Responsible for maintaining buildings and grounds for all of the Rescue Mission locations. This entails monitoring, coordinating and overseeing maintenance, building services (cleaning), repairs, and renovation projects and grounds upkeep.
  • Ensures the quality of facilities services by developing and monitoring performance measures for key processes; facilitating regular audits establishing and maintaining standards of excellence; implementing “best practices”.
  • Ensures an efficient, high quality, customer-focused work order process through Que Centre software.
  • Works in partnership with Safety Manager to ensure facilities meet required safety standards and are prepared for emergency situations. Ex: Generators are tested and emergency plans are in place including procedures and staffing.
  • Supports utilizing Mission Program clients in Building Services for vocational training, and volunteers/groups in Maintenance for capacity building.
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance of facility equipment, including HVAC, office equipment, etc
  • Available for emergencies and participates in the on-call emergency maintenance rotation.
  • Works closely with vendors and contractors to meet the needs of the facilities department in a cost effective manner.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established organizational policies to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
  • Promotes a safety first attitude by setting a positive example and ensuring all employees are following safety policies and procedures.
  • Regular and predictable in-person attendance is an essential requirement of the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Vocational Specialized training required (electrical, plumbing, carpentry etc.) Certification preferred
  • 5+ years progressive experience in related field
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid NYS Drivers Licenses in good standing
  • Smartphone
  • Flexible availability to respond to emergencies after hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Must follow all CDC guidelines, including but not limited to, wearing masks when working.
