Mechanic, Journeyman Job at American Gypsum
Certain skills and abilities are required; a qualified candidate must:
Have demonstrated dependability in the previous classification.
- Have demonstrated a professional and cooperative work attitude in the previous classification.
- Know how to operate plant equipment.
- Have all tools required by the Plant’s “Grade 2-4 Tool List.” plus miscellaneous spud bars, alignment tools, feeler gauge sets, and a string line.
- Know how to operate a plasma torch on stainless steel shapes and plates or bar stock with a thickness up to 3/8”.
- Demonstrate basic welding skills with both MIG and stick on mild steel and stainless steel.
- Know how to troubleshoot all power transmission equipment.
- Know how to properly repair all gearboxes, replace all seals, either in place or in the shop.
- Know how to install all air, water, gas, and hydraulic lines.
- Know how to inspect and rebuild air or hydraulic cylinders.
- Be able to troubleshoot all Dust Collection systems and perform all repairs.
- Know how to rebuild all pumps.
- Know how to perform minor electrical repairs such as replacing photo eyes, prox switches, and wiring motors.
- Demonstrate a thorough and complete understanding of all equipment in multiple areas for down day work assignments.
- Be able to read all blueprints, manuals, and bill of materials
- Be able to correctly layout areas for equipment installation or repairs.
- Be able to make simple sketches for fabrication work.
- Be able to do simple fabrications without supervision.
- Be able to complete all assignments/repairs with some supervision.
- Know basic principles of rigging for lifting and transporting any piece of plant equipment.
- Be able to complete repetitive tasks/assignments without supervision.
- Know how to examine any work area assigned for down day during the week and communicate required repair needs to his supervisor and/or the Parts Room clerk so the items are on hand when needed.
- Work in a safe manner in all conditions and circumstances.
- Practice good housekeeping principles.
- Continually participate in the plant’s safety programs, i.e. volunteer to serve on the Safety Committee, participate in safety projects, present safety huddles for the Maintenance Team.
