Position Overview:


Functions as a leader in health care team. Assumes responsibility for coordination of clinical services hospital-wide. Coordinates and supervises nursing personnel and directs other ancillary departments as needed. Is responsible to make administrative decisions necessary to maintain the operation of the hospital during assigned hours as a representative of the nurse managers, Chief Nursing Officer, and Administration and may be called upon to perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions
:


a) Needs to be aware of and keep units informed of the constantly changing needs of the whole hospital.


b) Collects pertinent patient information, responds to problems and issues to allow for appropriate staff/patient ratios.


c) Makes bed assignments in coordination with charge nurse, adjusts staffing to meet requirements of the nurse managers based on acuity data.


d) Provides for the coordination and management of nursing units and ancillary departments of the hospital.


e) Acts as a clinical resource to maintain standards of practice and standards of care.


f) The performance of these duties requires the House Supervisor to be available for the constantly changing needs of the hospital.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions:


Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.


Qualifications & Skills:

a) Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's Degree, Diploma or Bachelor Degree in nursing. BSN or experience preferred.


b) Training & Experience: 5 years clinical experience is required. Previous experience as House Supervisor preferred. Orientation is based on previous knowledge and experience. Additional education/training in related fields is considered on an individual basis. BCLS required on hire; ACLS. PALS or ENPC, NRP (preferred) within 9 months of hire.

c) Job Knowledge: Encompasses a wide range of nursing, psycho-social and medical information which includes nursing process, communications and problem-solving, assessment and prioritizing skills.
