Ledyard Public Schools is seeking an experienced, detail oriented Accounting and Payroll Coordinator. This role is responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll accurately and timely for the 500+ staff of Ledyard Public Schools, providing accounting oversight, and providing oversight of the Accounts Payable function.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Good working knowledge of accounting practices and tax laws
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processes and procedures
  • Experience successfully processing payroll for a medium to large organization preferred
  • Proven interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential

Responsibilities:

  • Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system (Munis)
  • Responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of all quarterly and annual payroll tax filings; remittance of payments to government agencies and third party vendors
  • Oversees accounting processes and functions including tuition invoicing, grant revenue, bank reconciliations, Medicaid financial reporting
  • Gathers and updates all required payroll data, including timesheets, W-2 forms, benefits information, direct deposit forms and tax filing documents
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits
  • Develops new reports and process changes to improve payroll and related processes
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  • Contributes to team success by providing accounts payable (AP) oversight and back-up
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least six months of experience in full service payroll preferred
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software. Working knowledge of Munis desired
  • Knowledge of Federal and State requirements pertaining to payroll
  • Proficient with G Suite, including Google sheets
  • Accounts payable or general accounting experience a plus
