Position Summary

This position will provide clinical and scientific support to the Hematopathology Service in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University. This position assists in producing clinical reports, communication of clinical and experimental results, developing and conducting research projects, experimental design, data analysis, and documentation.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Following instructions and discussions with the Hematopathology section head, designs protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification, organization, and management of patient data.
  • Assists with clinical reporting, manuscript, and grant preparation.
  • Performs complex analysis of patient data collected and writes interpretative clinical reports. This includes, but is not limited to, the evaluation of bone marrow biopsies, flow cytometry reports, comprehensive clinical case reports, and other ancillary hematologic testings. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses. Uses Microsoft Office Suite and is able to learn LIS, EMR, and other computer software as needed.
  • Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
  • Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with the Hematopathology service. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in methods. Communicates with clinical colleagues regarding testing and results.
  • Conducts literature searches related to clinical and research projects.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory and office environments with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment.

  • Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and to communicate in a clear, concise manner.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with four years of experience in research lab operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling nine years.

Salary Range

$46,100.00 - $83,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
