Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. The scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).

Piedmont Virginia Community College seeks a Web Developer and Content Specialist
to support the College brand, mission and values and help ensure the integrity of content and functionality of the website. This position will serve as a member of the PVCC Marketing and Media Relations team and report to the Director of Marketing and Media Relations.
The Web Developer and Content Specialist will collaborate with the marketing team, monitor website traffic, troubleshoot web issues and update the site as requested. The Web Developer and Content Specialist is responsible for design, implementation and updating web applications and integrations with systems for PVCC. In addition to working closely with the Marketing Director on design, page layout and content management, the Developer and Content Specialist collaborates across the College and its divisions to develop new pages and approved microsites. The Specialist provides accurate and timely assistance to the College community on web and online web application related matters.
The Web Developer and Content Specialist is responsible for:
  • Full stack development, covering both front- and back-end developer tasks:
    • Front end – user interface, physical layout, graphics integration, and HTML and JavaScript usage for enhancement.
    • Back end – structure, code, code functionality. Access points for administration.
  • Maintenance and support of the backend process for the official PVCC web site, including configuration knowledge for the programming language used by PVCC’s content management system, data sharing between the HRMS/ISIS systems provided by the Virginia Community College System, small scale web application, online forms, and technical assistance for the content management system.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for technical CMS issues pertaining to the PVCC web site.
  • Providing service to areas across the College as requested by the director.
  • Supporting the marketing team in maintaining the College brand.
  • Work in support of the school’s mission and values, ensuring all work supports strategic goals.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, with preference given to those with a degree in Computer Information Science and/or three-to-four years’ experience in web applications development. The incumbent will have:
  • Ability to prioritize and approach projects with flexibility and creativity.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to include the ability to effectively follow up and follow through on projects.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and advanced logic skills are required.
  • Expertise Content Management Systems, preferably Drupal 9.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.X) and ability to ensure site accessibility and accommodation.
  • Expertise to bring web to full mobile compatibility.
  • Expertise with web development languages. This is a critical skillset – (HTML, Java Script, PHP, ASP, CSS) and a solid, demonstratable understanding of database applications and integration.
  • ASP experience with integration of MS Access and SQL databases, Macromedia (Adobe) Unix/DOS based pages, responsive design and XML.
  • Experience developing and maintaining interactive web sites, including mobile forms.
  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Suite.
  • Managing system integrations, in collaborate with IT as needed
  • Experience producing web guideline documents and delivering training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
