What’s the job?

The role is home based and will travel as the role permits. Business travel is approximately 60-75%.

The WCM Industrial Efficiency Team Leader will help facilitate the implementation of the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program across 16 Roofing Products Group North American sites by focusing on improvements in the areas of operating efficiency & cost, process control, equipment reliability, quality, & materials yield. This position will actively ensure that the business and its employees have the appropriate skills, tools, and implementation plans to deliver world-class results. The WCM Team Leader serves as the primary liaison between the RPG WCM communities, the Plants or other support staff.

The main functions of the role include:

Continuous Improvement & Strategy:

  • Direct advancement and maintenance of WCM systems across the Roofing Products business by travelling across multiple roofing sites to support the business level objectives and goals. Identify, lead and drive operational efficiency projects and initiatives. Sees that WCM operating standards and tools are implemented in the most effective way at each site and streamlines ongoing communication about the WCM program. The Lead answers questions and provides guidance in a timely manner to deliver the required understanding and commitment to WCM toolset. Works with Management, Engineering, Technical and Operational functions to define, establish, fully deploy and continuously improve processes and working procedures across the sites, sharing successes with peers. Shares best practices and standardizes work amongst the sites. Provides input into planning and scheduling of projects and preparing expense and capital expenditures.

Loss Identification and Data Analysis:

  • Helps support the collection and stratification of loss data for the plants through the established IE pillar team/leader on a routine basis. Challenges the teams appropriately to drive maximum improvement and cost savings. Helps support projects, major and minor Kaizen events at each site.

Coaching and Training:

  • Coaches and supports teams to meet targeted deadlines. Trains and coaches the site management and personnel on tools, methodologies and techniques to drive results (KPI). Support WCM and Roofing teams with continuous improvement events.

Change Management:

  • Helps to oversee, advise on, and implement change management to help ensure improvements are executed succinctly and timely. Effectively handle resistance to change by utilizing strong team building, motivational and coaching skills.

Other:

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed and / or requested by management.

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Management, Lean Manufacturing or related field required.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing, process engineering or technical project development with a good understanding of the plant organization and complex manufacturing processes.
  • Subject Matter Expert in WCM methods and techniques (Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma)
  • Technical skills to include root cause analysis, focused improvement, TPM, Quality and Process Control
  • Knowledge of Operational strategy and organization
  • Teamwork, mentoring, and coaching skills
  • Communication skills
  • People Management and leadership
  • The job requires actively influencing and motivating a variety of people in changing and challenging situations. Strong influencing skills are needed as selling WCM is accomplished by gaining acceptance.
