POSITION SUMMARY

Volunteer Trail Crew team members provide daily maintenance and upkeep of on-mountain skier protection devices on trails, glades and public facilities and spaces. This is a part time, volunteer position that works with the Stratton Patrol team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintain and upkeep of on-mountain skier and boarder protection devices to including lift tower pads, snowmaking hydrant pads, and fence post pads.

  • Maintain and upkeep Patrol Headquarters, Top of Amex Patrol, Top of Sun Bowl Patrol, and Summit Lookout Tower.

  • Assist other departments with snow removal from the summit decks (Hubert Haus/Yoga deck) and Mid-Mountain Restaurant if the need arises.

  • Monitor our gladed areas for winter cut back (head room or ice damage).

  • Remove limbs and trees that are in the trail due to ice damage or snowmaking efforts.

  • Assist other departments as needed with things like special events and trail closing procedures.

  • Follow all schedules set forth.

  • Must use safety equipment when appropriate.

  • Must adhere to all policies set forth in the employee handbook.

  • Always interact with our guests in a positive manner to ensure a quality guest experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a strong and stable skier or snowboarder capable of handling all types of terrain while carrying equipment.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of ski area operation.

  • Must possess the common sense to be able to make decisions on their own.

  • Must be able to work well with others (a team player).

  • Must possess good customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of Stratton Mountain trails and slopes a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...

  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.

  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.

  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.

  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
