We are searching for a few individuals who have experience working with elementary school aged children as a reading, literacy, ELA, or special education tutor, teacher, interventionist, reading specialist, or an assistant teacher. Most of the children in our program are urban youth of ethnic backgrounds who have special needs/learning challenges. You MUST be comfortable working with this population and we strongly prefer educators who can relate to our students. IMMEDIATE START!!!

Location: This is a 100% remote position. Most of our clients reside on the east coast in America, so please be sure that your time zone corresponds.

Duties:

-Tutor a small group of children in reading (focusing on phonics). You will teach them how to read or improve their reading abilities. We may make exceptions for some children and offer them 1:1.

-Follow a lesson plan and edit or create material when necessary.

-Motivate, build confidence by giving lots of praise, and build rapport with the students in a casual, warm and welcoming environment.

-Communicate with the director about students' progress, schedule changes, and any concerns that may arise.

Schedule: 2 afternoons per week for 75 minutes each. Either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. Must be the same days and times each week, unless there is a holiday or other circumstance.

Pay rate $25 for 75 minutes (15 minutes prep time and 60 minutes tutoring)

Experience: Experience working with young children in an academic AND non-academic capacity. MUST have experience teaching or tutoring virtually.

Education: Required: minimum of either a relevant certification or Associate's in any field. Preferred: a college degree in education, child development, or a related field.

Abilities:

-Able to use the internet and Google Meet -You must be able to read fluently, comprehend grade-school books, and write proficiently. -The ability to teach/tutor a small group of children independently is imperative.

You: We are NOT looking for strict tutors or people who lack enthusiasm. At Avid Little Readers, our tutors LOVE what they do. They are extremely patient and believe that every child has potential. They build a relationship with the children and do their best to make a part of each lesson fun. If you smile a lot, give air fives, and often tell children how great they’re doing, this is probably the perfect position for you.
