The Vice President for University Advancement is responsible for providing leadership for the administration, marketing, communications, and public relations management for the entire institution, as well as alumni engagement, development, and management of all functions and matters relating to Fredonia's fundraising, and engagement efforts. This senior administrator reports directly to the University President and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet, participating in the overall management of the University.

The Vice President also serves as Executive Director of the Fredonia College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, governed by a 32-member Board of Directors, with the purpose of receiving private support, administering resources and supervising the investment of philanthropic funds in support of the university.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide vision and leadership for the University Advancement Division. Formulate and communicate goals for the division reflective of the campus' strategic plan;
Oversee the Marketing and Communications department, including Public Relations/Media Relations. Support strategic communication and marketing of the University, including public relations, website digital content and creative design that promote recruitment and retention of students and overall image of the University. Coordinate and oversee all communications on behalf of the university;
Provide vision and active leadership to the philanthropy team to secure annual, major, planned, and transformative gifts. Lead a robust effort to identify and build a pipeline of new donors, including those beyond the existing alumni pool. Develop plans and resources to strengthen the university's fundraising base and strategies to improve individual, corporate and foundation giving;
Serve as the Executive Director of the Fredonia College Foundation, providing responsible oversight, growth, and stewardship of the Foundations fiscal, human, and physical assets;
Work collaboratively with leadership across the institution to support key university priorities, initiatives, and opportunities;
Work closely with the University President on external community relationships;
Collaborate with the Executive Vice President/Provost to ensure that there is alignment between university support for students and foundation support for students and faculty;
Oversee alumni affairs and provide strategic direction for alumni relations on behalf of the university;
Support Board of Directors made up of alumni and friends from across the country. Facilitate on-campus Board of Directors meetings and staffing and preparation for supporting committees, including Executive, Finance, Investment, Audit, Development, Operations, and Special events;
Administers resources and supervises the investment of philanthropic funds and other revenues for the university;
Encourage and support best practices in fundraising, marketing and communications, and alumni affairs;
Supervise, support, mentor, and develop staff (20+) across the Division;
Work with direct reports and their respective teams on strategic planning efforts to meet increasing annual goals and drive long-term results;
Lead strategic preparation for all fundraising efforts, including targeted;
Maintain portfolio of individuals capable of supporting the University with major lifetime and estate gifts;
Encourage and facilitate engagement of 50,000-member alumni base and strengthen broad and creative alumni programing;
Create and manage multiple budgets including the Foundation's annual budget and allocated state resources;
Represent the University Advancement Division and the campus at meetings and events as requested by the President.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership and accomplishments in advancement with a track record of fundraising success, especially in major gift solicitations campaign planning and execution;
Demonstrated ability to design and implement successful fundraising and marketing campaigns
A keen understanding of the culture of a university campus;
Demonstrated success in building collegial relationships with a variety of internal and external constituencies;
Be transparent, collaborative, and team-oriented; bridge-builder and the ability to understand the role of advancement within the broader context of the institution;

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree;
Significant and progressively responsible experience as a senior-level advancement professional, including management experience;
Significant experience and demonstrable accomplishments in fundraising campaign management (proven success in the solicitation of numerous major and principal gifts);
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in advancement including fundraising, alumni affairs, marketing, public relations, strategic communication, and engagement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree preferred;
Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification;
A record of successful fundraising in higher education or a large non-profit organization at the major and principal gift levels;
Exemplary leadership and accomplishment in development with a proven track record of successful fundraising and campaign management;
Management experience in non-profit organization;
Experience in working and interacting with governing boards and other volunteer leaders;
Significant experience with alumni engagement;
Evidence of community engagement.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, 12-month, Management/Confidential position beginning, ideally, January 2023.

Evening and weekend work may be required to successfully fulfill these responsibilities, particularly when events are involved.
