The Billing Representatives and Analysts ensure the timely and accurate production and distribution of customer bills in accordance with customer contracts, policies, and procedures. They address various billing data requests from internal and external customers, and review accounts payable invoices related to purchased power, wheeling, and related services. The Billing Representatives and Analysts also assist with the development and maintenance of the SAP CCS billing system and BW reporting. #LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely and accurate billing and invoicing of customers.
  • Process external invoices for payment to vendors for services rendered to NYPA in accordance with negotiated contracts, policies, and procedures.
  • Review data interfaced from various sources (S&S, EE&ED, IOU’s, etc.) and used in the creation of customer invoices to check for accuracy and identify issues.
  • Review billing for accuracy and distribute final invoices to customers using agreed upon methods (fax, e-mail, US mail) on or before contractual due dates.
  • Complete analysis of data received, processed, and billed for assigned customers.
  • Prepare statistical reports for internal and external customers upon request.
  • Digitally archive all invoices and necessary back-up information for audits and inquires.
  • Respond to customer and internal department inquiries.
  • Generate Business Intelligence reports to review billing for customers and information is accurately recorded in SAP BI.
  • Provide the Manager with a record of issues identified during the billing cycle.
  • Provide support for error resolutions of invalid data.
  • Participate in special studies/ad hoc projects / testing of issues as assigned by management.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers, utilities, and billing staff on issues and resolutions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.) is required.
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills are required.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to represent NYPA to all internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in strict deadline environment.
  • Ability to learn functionality of new computer systems, including the SAP system.
  • Ability to learn and understand at a moderate level utility billing concepts and customer contracts.
  • Ability to analyze data and invoices for accuracy, seek guidance and assist when needed.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own assignments.
  • General understanding of the utility industry, billing concepts, and terminology is preferred.
  • Ability to identify potential incorrect charges and resolve with guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of data entry is preferred.
  • Ability to assist others in meeting deadlines, while still maintaining own workload.
  • Working knowledge of SAP is preferred.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Associate degree in a business relevant field with a minimum of 1 years of experience in a corporate billing or analytical role is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management, or Finance is preferred.
  • Experience working in a computerized environment is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of working experience in the SAP system is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Limited travel (about 10%) required primarily to our generating facilities.
