TEACHER ASSISTANT
PART-TIME, GRANT FUNDED THROUGH 8/15/2023
$17.66/HOUR

SCOPE OF WORK: Provides academic support services to students in technical programs, including assistance with study skills, research tools, and college-readiness skills. This position reports directly to the Student Success Center Services Coordinator at WMCC.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides academic support services to students at the Littleton Academic Center and via Zoom to online students and students at other WMCC locations.
  • Teaches students study skills, including the use of relevant research tools.
  • Assists students with the learning and use of college IT platforms such as Canvas and Navigate.
  • Collaborates with the accessibility services coordinator to ensure that all students have equal access to support services.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with faculty to identify and provide academic coaching and support for students and acts as the liaison for academic support efforts.
  • Assists SSC Services Coordinator with the recruiting of academic coaches and marketing of the academic support services at the Littleton Academic Center and assists with identifying and reaching out to students in need of academic support.
  • Assigns academic coaches. Confirms appointments and that academic coaching sessions occur as assigned. Maintains weekly and monthly report of academic support activity; compares timesheets with weekly academic coaching schedule.
  • Attends SSC staff meetings, college orientation, and other college meetings as necessary.
  • Assesses student skills; assists in developing study skills, in completing course assignments, and in studying for exams; teaches use of calculators and research tools.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree or equivalent credit hours from a recognized college or technical institute.

Experience: No experience required. Each additional year of approved work experience in a teaching environment may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid driver's license or access to transportation required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong organizational skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Mathematic literacy and proficiency in basic algebra topics. Strong working knowledge of the college and its programs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Hours may vary at times depending upon student need. Position may require travel to WMCC North Conway Academic Center.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the modern methods, principles, techniques, and procedures of teaching. Ability to maintain appropriate discipline without creating harmful situations to students concerned. Ability to promote cooperation between students and educational personnel. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to provide proper assistance to the teachers or supervisor assigned. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with all employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
