Swim Instructor - Norton Commons

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum age of 15
  • Team player with personal commitment to YMCA Mission, Philosophy & Character Development Values.
  • People centered, service oriented.
  • YMCA Youth Swim Lesson Instructor preferred, but we will train.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous lifeguard and/or swim instructor experience preferred, but we will train if not.
  • Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures in managing high-risk activities and appropriate boundaries of supervision. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Maintain all required certification
  • Take complete responsibility for scheduled hours and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitute procedures
  • Be on deck 15 minutes prior to class to greet participants; get all equipment set up before class time begins and put away after classes
  • Work as a team member

Physical Demands:
1. Must be able to remain alert.
2. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
3. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
4. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
5. Must be able to remain in water for long periods of time.

STATUS: Part-time, Non-exempt
STARTING SALARY: $10/Hr
