HARTZ Search has been retained by our newest client, Dartmouth Health to conduct a nationwide search for System Vice President, Biomedical Clinical Engineering in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The VP, of BioMed Clinical Engineering, will report directly to the Chief Information Officer. The new VP leads overall operations of Enterprise Biomedical / Clinical Engineering for the Dartmouth Health system. The ideal leader will demonstrate the ability to identify and assimilate a broad range of technology, operational, and financial information and develop strategies to meet clinical, financial, and operational goals and objectives. The leader will be responsible for enterprise-wide clinical capital equipment planning, budgeting, maintenance, and acquisition, subject to Capital Committee approval and supply chain standards and processes. They will plan for, evaluates, analyzes, review, and recommends the purchase and technical design proposals related to clinical equipment acquisitions across Dartmouth Health. The Vice President of BioMed Clinical Engineering provides guidance and consultation to senior administration and medical staff regarding technology assessment, utilization, communication processes, and advice on the purchase and leasing of durable medical equipment and acquisition. Collaborates with entity leadership to ensure effective Biomedical / Clinical Engineering support to hospital and clinic operations and works closely with Information Systems on integration and security standards. The ideal candidate will continue to drive the expansion of the program and manage the multi-vendor contract for the system, with a collaborative and collegial leadership style in a highly matrixed academic environment. The department strives to offer the best user experience across the enterprise with a visible presence to ensure strong stakeholder relationships.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works collaboratively with system CIO along with other Information Services Division leaders and analysts to ensure that the best user experience is delivered. To measure performance, creates and meets goals and objectives that ensures overall internal and external customer satisfaction. Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Builds and maintains stakeholder relationships across the system to ensure an understanding of and alignment to organizational needs, and an understanding and support by the organization of department objectives. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and health system in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Administers and maintains all department services in accordance with standards and criteria established by regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission, CMS, as well as local and federal agencies to ensure compliance to those external requirements.
  • The VP of Biomedical / Clinical Engineering is accountable for providing vision and strategy for the scope of services provided by Biomedical / Clinical Engineering team, addressing operational challenges, developing goals, prioritizing issues, and projects to establish excellence of service.
  • In collaboration with Corporate Materials and key stakeholders, provide leadership for strategic medical device roadmap to evaluate, review and recommend purchases and technical design proposals for related equipment acquisitions. Provides guidance and consultation to senior administration and medical staff regarding technology assessment, utilization and acquisition.
  • Evaluates and determines post warranty support options and contracts. Responsible for budgeting, negotiating, and managing clinical equipment support options and enterprise contracts. Recommends maintenance or replacement of clinical equipment.
  • Establishes criteria and methods for gathering data and maintaining appropriate documentation. Reviews analytical reports and develops performance improvement plans where necessary.
  • Prepares and manages corporate budgets and external billings, ensuring department operates within budgetary guidelines. Analyzes budget reports, identifies problems and opportunities. Advises on causes for variances and recommends/implements corrective measures.
  • Develops and implements Dartmouth Health policies and procedures for medical equipment issues, ensuring consistency across entities.
  • Establishes and maintains clinical equipment and related vendor relationships. Aligns with Corporate Materials, Finance and IT to ensure vendor/contract compliance with terms and conditions of agreements and Dartmouth Health standards. Reviews all contracts related to clinical equipment and related technologies, makes detailed assessment, and provides recommendations to the Chief Information Officer to control over departmental expenditures.

Lebanon is located in Grafton County in western New Hampshire situated on the Connecticut River in the heart of a pristine New Hampshire Valley. Together with Hanover, New Hampshire, and White River Junction, Vermont, Lebanon is at the center of a Micropolitan Statistical Area, encompassing nearly 30 towns along the upper Connecticut River Valley. The City is approximately 60 miles from Concord, the state capital; 120 miles from Boston; and 120 miles from Burlington, Vermont. Elevations range from 340 to 1336 feet above sea level.

It is characterized by ridgelines, surrounding the bottomlands of the Mascoma and Connecticut Rivers, that are accented by a number of prominences giving Lebanon's terrain a strong, undulating form. The Mascoma River serves a dual role of linking the eastern and western ends of the City and of partitioning the north from the south. The Connecticut River serves as a landmark that defines the City limits on the west and ties the northwest section of Lebanon with the southwest corner.
