Job Description
SUMMARY:
In the Center for Research and Evaluation on Education and Human Services (CREEHS), Survey Proctors (temporary position) are part of a data team that will support remote data collection activities for a statewide survey administered to middle school students during the 2022-2023 school year (October 2022 to June 2023). The Survey Proctor reports to a CREEHS Evaluation Associate. Multiple positions are available.
The Survey Proctor conducts a range of activities, including but not limited to the following:
  • Participates in mandatory virtual trainings and simulations on data collection protocols and administrative activities
  • Completes the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) training
  • Tracks electronic submissions of parent consent forms and student assent forms prior to survey administrations in accordance with consent statutes for assigned schools
  • Ensures student rosters, parent consent and student assent submissions, and other administrative data have been stored and entered correctly, and checked for accuracy for assigned schools
  • Updates school-specific materials related to consent and survey administration processes for assigned schools using the Google Suite (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Forms, Sites)
  • Conducts virtual consenting visits in English and possibly also in Spanish with students and teachers at assigned schools using a video conference platform agreed to by the school (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Webex, Microsoft Teams) to highlight the purpose of the survey and explain the active parent consent process
  • Participates in brief planning calls with CREEHS, school liaisons, and teachers before survey administrations at assigned schools to review last minute details
  • Virtually administers surveys to students at assigned schools through a video conference platform in English and possibly also in Spanish with the support of another Survey Proctor
  • Documents student attendance, verifies student consent status, obtains student assent, and provides assistance to students using a standard protocol during survey administrations at assigned schools
  • Creates an environment that makes students feel safe while completing the survey
  • Interacts with school staff and students in a courteous, professional, and appropriate manner
  • Communicates with CREEHS staff on a regular basis via weekly check-ins and ad-hoc debriefing calls post-survey administrations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS;
REQUIRED
  • Bachelor or Associates degree
  • Some coursework in research methods, education, counseling, psychology, social work, public health, or child development or a related social science field
  • Minimum one year of related work experience
  • Ability to work at least 15 hours per week (total hours may vary depending on work assignments)
  • Flexible with hours on most days to accommodate schools’ preferred schedules (between 7:00am to 4:00pm Eastern Time)
  • Proficiency with the Google Suite (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites)
  • Familiarity with video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meets, Webex, Microsoft Teams)
  • Applicants must be willing to complete all security measures (e.g., background check) required by the study
PREFERRED
  • Master’s degree candidate/student
  • Fluency in Spanish (strongly preferred)
  • Research experience (e.g., conducting human subjects research in an IRB approved study, administering surveys)
  • Experience working with children, in schools, or afterschool programs
  • Strong organizational, task, and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and with diverse populations
  • Quick learner, flexible and willing to learn new ideas, content areas, and skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a critical attention to detail to ensure accuracy of study data
