Our Surgical Technologists provide scrub support for an 8 room state of the art acute care facility, and we're expanding! Join a diverse Surgical Team who have a combination of experience ranging from new grad to over 30 years. Our Surgeries include orthopedics, ENT, general, bariatic, vascular, plastics and thoracic. With an in-department CST Educator, learning new skills and growth as a Surgical Technologist could be in your future.

1. Physiological\: Basic - Provides individualized age specific care that supports physical functioning (under the direction of the Registered Nurse & within scope of practice). o Pain management - observe for nonverbal cues of discomfort, especially in those unable to communicate effectively 2. Physiological\: Complex - Provides individualized, age-specific care that supports homeostatic regulation (under the direction of the Registered Nurse & within scope of practice). o Airway management-Assist with induction as directed o Fluid management\: insert urinary catheter if appropriate o Infection Control- intraoperative\: adheres to policies and procedures for aseptic technique; takes corrective action when any breaks in technique occur o Malignant Hyperthermia Precaution - assists with prevention and treatment of hypermetabolic response to pharmacological agents used during surgery o Medication Administration - Prepares, labels and maintains medications on surgical field o Oxygen Therapy - Administers supplemental oxygen as directed o Positioning - deliberately placing the patient or body part to promote surgical exposure while reducing the risk of discomfort or complication o Surgical Assistance - performs and/or provides assistance during procedures which reflect awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies and knowledge o Surgical Assistance - Anticipates the needs of the surgeon which includes passing instruments, sutures and other items appropriate to the procedure o Surgical Precautions- minimizes the potential for iatrogenic injury to the patient related to a surgical procedure o Surgical Preparation - checks case cart for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment and determines them to be in working order before a case begins o Surgical Preparation - Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card o Temperature Regulation - assists with attaining and maintaining intraoperative body temperature 3. Behavioral - Provides age specific, individualized care that supports psychosocial functioning & facilitates lifestyle changes (under the direction of the Registered Nurse & within scope of practice). o Active Listening - Attends closely to and attaches significance to a patient's verbal and nonverbal message o Emotional Support - Provides reassurance, acceptance & encouragement during times of stress o Anxiety Reduction- minimizes apprehension, dread, foreboding, or uneasiness related to surgery 4. Organization of patient care - demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care in collaboration with RN o Prioritizes patient care based on patient's plan of care o Collaborates with team members, surgeons, and anesthesia to assure patient's well-being 5. Safety - Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports protection from harm (under the direction of the Registered Nurse & within scope of practice). o Recognizes life threatening emergencies & responds appropriately o Emergency Cart Checking - systematically reviews contents of emergency care at established time intervals o Surveillance\: Safety - collects & analyses information about the patient and the environment for use in promoting and maintaining patient safety o Laser Precautions - limits the risk of injuring to the patient related to the use of the lasers o Latex Precautions - reduces the risk of systematic reaction to latex 6. Health System - Provides care that supports effective use of the health care delivery system o Patient Rights Protection- protects the health care rights of a patient, especially a minor, incapacitated, or incompetent patient unable to make decisions o Physician Support - collaborates with the physician to provide quality patient care o Specimen Management - obtains, prepares, and preserves a specimen for laboratory testing o Cost Containment - manages and facilitates efficient and effective use of resources o Technology Management - Demonstrates working knowledge of powered instrumentation, video equipment, microscopes, complex instrumentation and equipment 7. Continuing Education & Development - Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in clinical practice o Participates in ongoing educational activities related to practice area and clinical issues. o Acquires knowledge and skills appropriate to the specialty area and practice setting o Assists and supports a new or transferred employee through orientation 8. Advanced Skill Set - First Assist/Service Coordinator o First Assist - Assists the Surgeon with the operative procedure as a Surgical First Assist under the direct visual supervision of the Surgeon. o Demonstrates the principles of safe positioning of the surgical patient. o Provide retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization with regard to tissue type and appropriate retraction instrument and/or technique. o Assist in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure, use and application of appropriate surgical instrument for the task, placement of ties, placement of suture ligatures, application of chemical hemostatic agents, or other measure as directed by the surgeon and under the direct visual supervision of the surgeon. o Use electrocautery mono and bi-polar under the direct visual supervision of the surgeon. o Clamp, ligate, and cut tissue under the direct visual supervision of the surgeon. o Insert drainage tubes under the direct visual supervision of the surgeon. o Demonstrates the appropriate techniques to assist with the closure of body parts. o Expedites the operative procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon. o Demonstrates advanced knowledge of normal and pathological anatomy and physiology. o Demonstrates knowledge of emergency situations. o Service Coordination - Assumes daily responsibility to coordinate and oversee designated service line. Checks schedule daily, troubleshooting equipment or instrument conflicts. Contact surgeon's office with any questions on upcoming procedures. o Works with materials management staff, sterile processing department and pick room staff to inventory specialty items for specific surgical case needs. Talks to product representatives about costs and requested products. o Works with manager to understand and support purchasing, inventory objectives and budgeting processes. Assists in evaluation and completion of value analysis form for surgeon requests for new instruments. Contributes to capital budget preparedness. o Maintains up to date preference cards and initiates new preference cards and changes. o Oversees staff working in his/her established service line to insure clinical and behavioral excellence. Works with the OR Manager and CNS to establish progressive goal completion for staff and consult on annual reviews. Acts as a liaison for nursing peer review and yearly peer evaluation follow up. Facilitates mentoring relationships with their team. Acts as a preceptor for staff new to their service. o Has the responsibility and accountability to work in collaboration with his/her surgeon(s)/surgeon specialty groups to identify required equipment and new procedures for their surgical service line. Is the "go to person" for the surgeon when he/she has issues that need to be resolved regarding equipment, personal preference cards or staffing issues. Arranges for vendors or loaner equipment when needed. o Continually reviews patient care and makes recommendations for change to ensure compliance with established standards of nursing care and The Joint Commission standards. o Collaborates with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to identify and/or facilitate staff orientation, education and in-services on new products or updated equipment as they relate to their service. Identifies educational needs for their team and surgeons and facilitates these educational opportunities.

Qualification:
Experience Minimum Required • Recent Surgical Scrub experience Experience Preferred/Desired • One year of Surgical Scrub experience Education Minimum Required • Completion of an approved Surgical Technologist Program or completion of hospital based training program and two or more years recent scrub experience Licensure and/or Certifications Required • ARC or AHA BLS, NH Medical Technician Registration Licensure and/or Certifications Preferred/Desired • CST
