Position: Support Service Provider III

Location: COPD Albuquerque, NM

Must have American Sign Language skills

The Support Service Provider III serves as the eyes and ears of individuals who are deafblind, deaf-plus, and older Deaf adults by providing supports that enhance independence. Relays visual and environmental information and as well as provides sighted guide support and transportation to and from events and community-based activities. Transports individuals who are deafblind, deaf-plus, and older Deaf using agency and/or rental vehicles. Also provides additional supports such as advocacy, assistance with assistive/access technology, and reinforcement of the acquisition of self-advocacy, travel, and independent living skills. May also provide technical assistance to consumer groups. Also assists in the scheduling of Support Service Providers (SSPs) and vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position, and will be considered by the Corporate Director of Human Resources.

  • Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, social work, education, vocational rehabilitation, or related field
  • 3 years' experience working with individuals who deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, deaf-plus, blind, and/or low vision.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, and/or English and/or uncontracted Braille and/or in other alternate communication modes used by individuals who are deafblind or deaf-plus (e.g., tactile signing, print-on-palm, tangible symbols, etc.)
  • Ability to write clear and easily understandable reports in standard English
  • Proven ability to lift 35 pounds 15% of the time
  • Ability to travel independently
  • Basic computer and typing skills
  • New Mexico or Federal Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • New Mexico Driver License, proof of insurance, and 36 month Motor Vehicle Report for New Mexico
  • Pass drug screening
  • Pass FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Summary

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in rehabilitation, social work, education, vocational rehabilitation, or related field
  • Additional years of experience working with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind, or low vision
