Supports the Munitions and Environmental Remediation Department and is responsible for destruction, production, storage, receipt, shipment, inspection, maintenance, or testing of explosive ordnance items or components to meet productivity and quality goals at the Hawthorne Army Depot, Hawthorne, Nevada. Position reports to the Director of Operations, Ammunition Demilitarization Operations.
All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized. Responsibilities
  • Perform manual, technical, and mechanically assisted duties involved with the destruction, production, storage, receipt, shipment, inspection, maintenance, or testing of explosive ordnance items or components
  • PLANNING
    • Assists with the daily, weekly, or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates
    • Establishes deadlines and priorities based on general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision
    • Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently, how many must be delayed, and the number and types of employees needed, considering skills, personnel, material, and equipment available and required to ensure full utilization of all employees and facilities
    • Coordinates disposal work performed by reviewing advance information on anticipated workload to determine the effect of such workload on current scheduled work
    • Works closely with the assigned Project Manager to plan and schedule work in accordance with established procedures
    • Determines manpower requirements and arranges to shift personnel for maximum utilization of manpower in accomplishing the work. Prepares justification for requests for additional personnel when it appears that work cannot be accomplished with available manpower
    • Reviews kinds of work involved to determine special methods and procedures to be applied, degree of hazard involved and special precautions to be observed and probable technical problems that may be encountered
    • Assists in preparation of Standard Operating Procedures as required
    • Reviews total workload to determine equipment needs and requirements and submits support requests
    • Submits work requests for repair/replacement of equipment and facilities
    • Must assure adherence to safety regulations and procedures as outlined in SOP, instruct and informed employees of the information contained in site instructions and know where to obtain any required additional information
  • WORK DIRECTION
    • Selects workers and assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirement, methods, and procedures, instructs subordinates in new procedures, and provides advice when problems arise
    • Reviews work in progress or on completion. Adjusts plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible
    • Determines equipment, supplies, and equipment at work site, as needed. Coordinates work of unit with other units that may be involved
    • Physically performs the identical efforts as a Munitions Destroyer when instructing new employees in the proper work procedures and when instructing current employees in new procedures
    • Efforts include destroying all types of incendiary bombs, starter cartridges, smoke signals, illuminating flares, marine location markers, surface flares, rifle smoke grenades, simulators, detonators, artillery flash projectiles, booby traps, smoke pots, demolition charge assemblies, rocket mortars, and numerous other pyrotechnic items in a large incendiary “bomb pit”. Prepares a bed of flammable material initially and places explosive components thereon.
    • Preparing smokeless powder and bulk high explosives such as TNT, tetryl, explosive "D" Ballistite, Compositions "A", "B", and "C", HBX, magnesium smokeless powder, bag charges, and aluminum powders and similar explosives for burning on open burning beds. Moves unserviceable material to burning beds and places material on bed in accordance with established procedures as to quantity and personnel limits for the type of explosives
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of the number of employees needed to accomplish work to ensure that areas are not overloaded beyond explosive limits set by the Safety Department
  • Must possess a current and extensive knowledge of EPA and waste handling requirements and local regulations concerning environmental regulations and guidelines
  • Provides general instructions, standard procedures, overall priorities, and policies, and ensures operations are safe and accomplishes an adequate quantity and quality of work. Work is reviewed for efficient and economical accomplishment within priorities and controls received
  • Follows all pertinent local, state, and federal compliance documents and procedures
  • Checks tools, material, and equipment of safety and maintains constant vigilance thorough the visual inspection to prevent accidents
  • Accurately record and report all Munition and Munition component accountability and discrepancies to the appropriate authority
  • Accounts for all donor material and firing train components issued
  • Must have thorough knowledge of ammunition and ammunition components handled at HWAD
  • Supervise the removal of trash and dunnage and maintain a clean, secure, and safe work area to include but not limited to pulling weeds, emptying trash, cleaning work and common areas, and restrooms in or around explosive operations buildings and/or magazines
  • UXO Tech III can be assigned to various areas including but not limited to: Ammo Processing, Disposal Operations, Production Support, and Inventory
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Prior experience at Hawthorne Army Depot an UXO TIII
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess a Nevada State Blaster’s certificate
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required training in accordance with Acuity’s training requirements for the position
  • Must satisfactorily complete the Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working Ammunition Operations required by AMC Regulation 350-4 within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to use any equipment in a safe manner as it pertains to job
  • Skill in using small hand tools
  • Ability to operate a vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System and Common Access Card (CAC), and must pass local agency background check

  • Must live within commuting distance to Hawthorne Army Depot. No relocation expenses or housing allowance offered
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and Real ID

Physical Requirements
  • Pass an annual OSHA physical and no notice and semi-annual drug screenings
  • Ability to wear and respirator and PAPR
  • Work involves a small percent of sitting and the remainder of the time devoted to walking, standing, stooping, and bending
  • Spends nearly all working time outside, in all kinds of weather and extremes of temperature
  • May be required to do moderate lifting from 15 to 85 pounds for instruction and emergency situations
  • Alertness is required to observe conformity to the various specifications as issued in instructions to accomplish the job
  • Color vision is a very important fact to be able to distinguish various color codes for identification of ammunition
