Team Lead - 10th Street Cafe - Hourly

A Mudhouse Team Leader is responsible for all day-to-day cafe operations, guiding and exemplifying the highest level of customer service with a specialty coffee focus and inspiring our teams to share and connect with the community over coffee.

Our Team Leaders are responsible for the overall success of the cafe in conjuction with our Area Manager. They build strong teams and are focused on training and developing each team member and future leader. They are also responsible for ensuring all of our guests experience exceptional hospitality and coffee experiences and guiding our cafe to achieve our financial and operational goals.

You Possess

  • 2+ years of retail/hospitality experience with a strong preference for coffee, food, and beverage
  • 2+ years of leadership experience leading a team of 10+ people
  • Existing Food Safety Certification required for the state you will be working in and your specific role or will obtain it within 30 days post-hire
  • A strong understanding of a profit and loss statement and knowledge of how to impact it
  • Comfort using computer programs, especially Google Drive tools (Sheets, Docs, Calendar)
  • A flexible schedule and are available to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays

  • Continuously cultivate your own curiosity and knowledge of coffee through in-house tastings, cuppings, and training and Mudhouse Coffee Resources as well as open resources.

  • Collaborate with other teams at Mudhouse and your Director to creatively engage your community, deepening relationships with regular guests and welcoming newcomers
  • Coach and train to ensure we always meet our high standards of quality and deliciousness for every beverage and food item served in your cafe
  • Work on bar and on the floor, not only to help the team in busy moments but to stay constantly connected to the heart of our work and find ways to continually improve it
  • Create and maintain a thoughtful work schedule for your team that balances individual, team, and cafe needs while meeting our business goals for efficiency
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the cafe smoothly and accurately, including ordering, banking, reviewing and approving payroll, etc.
  • Leads the cafe team to develop goals, align priorities, and execute initiatives in line with the company’s larger goals.
  • Knowledgeable and capable in every role within the cafe.
  • Is present in the cafe to ensure high customer service standards are met by:
  • Assisting the team with problem solving efforts
  • Implementing SOPS and streamlining workflow to increase efficiencies.
  • Increasing team effectiveness & morale
  • Conducts regular team meetings
  • Conducts individual check ins with staff members as needed
  • Demonstrates the highest level of customer service and professionalism
  • Works 35-40 hours per week in-store plus more if needed for business
  • Employee Relations: Interviewing and hiring, onboarding and training
  • Shift scheduling
  • Staff Performance Evaluations and One on One’s.
  • Advises and informs staffing actions to Area Manager or D.O.
  • Responsible for ensuring the cafe is prepared for service
  • Handles cash and bank funds/deposits responsibly and securely
  • Inventory management - keeping everything in supply to maximize sales potential
  • Light Mechanical: lights, restroom fixtures/drainage, coffee equip. maintenance.
  • Cafe finances including: Meeting monthly COGS targets
  • Meeting labor budgets and financial goals from company
  • Payroll ManagementAllocating employee tips
  • Completing weekly & monthly financial reporting tasks
