Job Description Summary

Position Summary:
The Dosimetry Technician is responsible for processing all dosimetry used in the Gamma Irradiator at Columbus West. This includes production, Quarterly Sterility Dose Audits (SDA’s), and experimental requests. They also lead execution of all dosimetry related studies (Annual calibration, Annual validation upon cobalt reload, & product family dose mapping (validation)). The Dosimetry Tech’s additional duties include coordinating equipment calibration, acting as a department purchasing agent, and performing Preventative Maintenance duties (PM distribution & technical confirmation). This position works in a small team environment, therefore performing other duties as necessary, such as, but not limited to, helping maximize department OEE, quality, & cleanliness, as well as backing up the scheduler, are part of this position. Associate may also occasionally support department in the areas of training, document control, quality, and regulatory requirements. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Shift: Day Shift

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Processes production Dosimetry: All dosimetry reading utilizes a Spectrophotometer & DoseControl Software

  • Processing Experimental Loop Dosimetry: Determine processing time, set up experimental dose tracking, run product into irradiator, read, repeat as necessary. Tracking/Documentation of runs.

  • Product and dosimeter dose mapping (validation): With Sterilization Lead support, set up dosemap tracking, manage execution of experiment, input data.

  • Required to set up, execute, & read dosemaps following annual reload validation

  • Manages annual dosimeter batch calibration

  • Execution timing for product/reload validation studies requires occassional off-shift support.

  • Coordinate and/or provide direction to Department personnel when dosing requirements/studies dictate special processing or mapping.

  • Assist sterilization Leader in monitoring dosimeter readings to initiate changes to the Master Timer

  • Perform Monthly Spectrophotometer Verification/Calibration

  • Coordinate Equipment Calibration

  • BuySmart (Purchasing)

  • Ordering parts / support department maintenance

  • PM planning duties (print, distribute, teco).

  • Maintain Licensed Radiation worker certification

  • Ability to eventually be cross trained in scheduling

  • Communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing) with various levels of the organization (Microbiologists, Product Engineers, shipping, & management associates).

  • Maintain documentation as required by plant procedures (both quality & irradiator license related).

  • Helps ensure Cobalt Loading is performed in a safe & efficient manner.

  • Occasional weekend dosimetry support may be required.

  • Ability to become an assistant radiation safety officer preferred.

  • Departmental Housekeeping.

  • Works in a safe manner and helps hold associates accountable for working safely.

  • Other duties as required to support the needs of the business

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED required

  • Associates Degree preferred

Experience:

  • Previous experience with SAP, MES, Word and Excel preferred

  • Working knowledge of dosimetry, product dose mapping, and other dosimetry studies preferred

  • Ability to become licensed operator (Radiation Safety & Security testing) required

  • Ability to become an assistant Radiation Safety Officer preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-directed work position

  • Basic mathmatical skills required. Understanding of ratio’s preferred

  • Understanding of quality system requirements

  • Ability to use DoseControl, Word, & Excel documents. Also use other basic computer systems - Proficient

  • Written and Verbal communication skills - Proficient

  • Maintain accurate product identification, traceability, and Material status - Proficient

  • Work well with others (small team environment) - Proficient

  • Work effectively with only limited direct supervision and meet all work deadlines - Proficient

  • Organizational and task management skills - Proficient

  • Take initiative (see what needs to be done and then do it) - Basic
