Job Overview

A full time Sr Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Chen Gao, PhD in the Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Gao’s laboratory focuses on understanding the underlying molecular mechanism associated with cardiometabolic diseases. The laboratory utilizes multidisciplinary approaches including genetically modified mouse models as well as cell culture models, combined with state-of-art pathophysiology measurements, genomic and epigenomic approaches, and molecular/biochemistry techniques. The current research projects in Dr. Gao lab includes RNA metabolism in cardiac remodeling, and BCAA mediated metabolic regulation in the pathogenesis of heart failure and metabolic disorders.

Essential Functions

  • Independently perform experiments and records data according to research protocols.
  • May maintain and oversee animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
  • Analyze research results. Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.
  • Organize data search and analysis procedures.
  • Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
  • Assist with the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
  • Accomplish assigned results for projects/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
  • Serve as seasoned professional.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
