The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
Reporting to the Manager of Exhibition Installation, the Specialist will be part of the Exhibition Design and Production Department on the Exhibition Installation team. You will focus on preparing galleries, frames, and casework for the installation of full exhibitions. You will be handling and installing artwork for exhibitions.
You Will:
- Prepare frame materials including cutting mat boards, backing boards, plexiglass, and other frame package materials.
- Handle artwork safely from unpacking to installation to re-packing and storage.
- Work in teams to install 2-D and 3-D art objects.
- Assist with onsite mock-ups and some model making.
- Help with the packing of works of art for transport while applying best practices for handling and materials.
- Install and secure scenic and display elements including wall panels, platforms, display cases, pedestals, labels, and signage.
- Work with the team to maintain and clean galleries and workspaces daily.
