This position is permanent, full-time, with a duty station in GLIDE, Oregon. ***THE POSITION***

This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The incumbent of this position provides leadership and guidance to students in a group living environment and provides practical counseling to students.

MAJOR DUTIES

The incumbent assists students, peers, and subordinates in understanding the relevance of, and promotes the development of positive social skills among students through modeling appropriate behavior, positive intervention, and positively intervening and teaching appropriate employability skills for workplace success. Participates in the Center Behavioral Management System (BMS) and/or the Student Code of Conduct (SCC) program as necessary to insure proper workplace conduct, appearance and behavior. Sets a positive example as a role model to students by displaying appropriate etiquette, timeliness, and dress.

MAJOR DUTIES

Incumbent serves as an assistant to the Dormitory Manager, providing on-site supervision of students to ensure a safe, healthy atmosphere.

Provides input in the planning of dormitory activities of students. Maintains order and discipline among students, observing and recording social behavior patterns to aid in counseling and or placement of students. Documents both positive and negative behavior traits.

Schedules, coordinates, and supervises work details, recreational and other group activities including making reservations, acquiring transportation, and other related arrangements and providing information concerning these activities. Assigns individual duties by establishing student work rosters on a rotating basis and ensuring that students adhere to assigned tasks. Provides leadership and direction to students in performing daily housekeeping duties, work details, physical training, recreation, hygiene, etc. Gives practical advice and counsel to students in order to assist in developing work skills.

Conducts various dorm meetings during absence of the supervisor to disseminate information to students, and provide guidance in such areas as group living problems. Facilities student group counseling sessions. Meets individually with students to discuss day-to-day problems encountered in residential living. Gives practical advice and counsel to students and proposes solutions to routine problems without imposing personal values.

Performs other duties as assigned.

NOTE:

This position is required to work swing shift and night shift when determined by the needs of the Center.

The Wolf Creek JCCCC is located in the Umpqua National Forest, 11.7 miles north-east of GLIDE, Oregon, a community of approximately 1,800 people, and is 27.6 miles east to the outskirts of Roseburg, Oregon, a community of approximately 24,915 people. Roseburg is the county seat, the largest city in Douglas County, and is the hub for retail, government activity and medical services in Central Douglas County.

The USDA Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 years old to complete their high school education; trains them in educational, social, and vocational skills that are needed for meaningful careers and assists them with obtaining employment. WCJCCCC trade areas of focus include: welding, carpentry, construction, business services, culinary, forestry, and wildland fire fighting.

Pay: $37,696.00 - $49,009.00 per year
