Work in the Disability Resource Center (DRC) as reception and administrative support. The Specialist will be responsible for: greeting students, faculty, staff, and the general public; scheduling appointments for Accessibility Advisors, staff interpreters and service providers; helping students apply for DRC services; answering phone calls; performing clerical duties involving data entry and word processing; typing correspondence; providing support to service providers as needed, and other routine support functions.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
The Specialist will assist students in applying for Disability Resource Center services and the navigation of the DRC database. Will schedule appointments and handle walk-in inquiries. Perform the following clerical functions: word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, document filing, faxing, and photocopying. Update student files. Answer telephones, redirect callers, take messages for staff, answer general questions, provide support to service providers (including fulfilling reader/scribe accommodations as needed); other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma required.
Must be approved for Federal Work Study.
Preferred Qualifications
Bi-lingual preferred, experience working with a varied and diverse population, working directly in delivering services to people with disabilities. Some college preferred. 1 year office, reception, or customer service experience preferred. Experience with SLCC processes preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: business English, math, spelling, punctuation, college application and registration procedures, general office procedures, basic computer skills, excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Must be dependable and reliable.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Special Instructions
Some flexibility in schedule available depending on department need and class schedule.
Office hours are M-F 8:00am-4:30pm.

Must have been awarded Federal Work Study. You will not be considered for this job unless you have work-study. Salt Lake Community College may complete a criminal background check on the finalist.

Work-study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work-Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office.

If you do not have work-study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work-study positions.
