Summary of Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Steel Producing facilities.
• Provide tools and resources necessary to ensure the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of the facility.
• Manage crews at the melting and casting facilities, while facilitating a safe and productive work environment.
• Manage in a union atmosphere and able to prioritize and direct union personnel.
• Direct some maintenance activities to support a reliable operation.
• Ensure product quality.
• Trouble shoot, support continuous improvement activities, work with outside contractors/vendors, and communicate key performance measures to his/her supervisor.
• Improve reliability across Steel Producing to decrease cost, improve production, and help meet customer needs.
• Manage issuance of disciplinary actions for hourly employees.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma
• Two years of operations supervisory experience in an industrial environment, preferably in a union facility or a candidate without supervisory experience who has an interest in pursuing a career in a manufacturing environment and has at least 1 year leadership experience.
• Proficient computer skills including all MS Office applications.
• Good troubleshooting, and team building skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to be on-call on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Willingness to work different shifts, including nights and afternoons.
• Ability to lift more than 25 pounds on occasion.
• Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, use of hands, etc. is required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or materials science engineering.
• Five (5) years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably in another Steelmaking shop, Caster or steel plant operation, with three (3) years in a supervisory role in operations.
• Experience in a union environment
