Job Title: Senior Product Engineer

Location: Keosauqua, IA or Centerville, IA


What we’re looking for:


We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer to be an active participant in the preparation, evaluation and reporting of critical performance data for Dover Food Retail Food Display products. Must be able to apply scientific method to evaluation of hypothesis, create test plan, test methodology, and conclusions. Applications will include engineering projects supporting current product as well as continuous improvement activities. Very dynamic environment with a wide array of projects. Refrigeration, air conditioning, dehumidifier, sealed-system, airflow thermal management, or similar, design theory and application greatly desired. Supermarket refrigeration system overall understanding and component knowledge preferred but not required. Position will support daily engineering and design needs pertaining to customer orders, Sales, Manufacturing, Field Service. Additionally, also supporting cross functional organization needs of the Quality Assurance, Test Lab, Product Management, New Product Development engineering, Design To Value engineering teams pertaining to the engineering needs of assigned product responsibilities.


What you’ll be responsible for in this role:


  • Researching, analyzing, and planning the product design in accordance with product requirements as established from various sources including product management, manufacturing, test lab, and customer specification documents.
  • Implementing improvements to existing product for cost reductions and performance improvements. Hands-on mechanical design, analysis (including FEA), prototyping, debugging, system integration and testing are key components of the development activities.
  • Documenting, implementing, and testing mechanical design requirements for production. This includes supporting transfer of relevant design output documents and recommended process instructions.
  • Becoming the SME for refrigeration design within the Iowa engineering organization
  • Acting as a team leader by supporting the Product Engineering Manager in establishing or updating project and departmental deliverables, assuring that quality processes are followed on projects and within the Product Engineering group, investigating and researching new and existing manufacturing processes, partnering with suppliers to evaluate component alternatives, and driving corrective actions related to field and production issues.
  • Inform and train team members as required, acting as mentor for junior level engineering staff


What are the basic qualifications?


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or related field, AND 8+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development Engineering, Product Engineering, or similar role
  • OR –


  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or related field, AND 4+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development Engineering, Product Engineering, or similar role


  • 3+ years of experience with state-of-the-art engineering quality tools, such as FMEA, DOE, and DFM/DFA.
  • 3+ years of 2D & 3D CAD experience


What are the preferred qualifications?


  • 10+ years of working experience in a fast-paced, customized manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of experience or knowledge in refrigeration, air conditioning, dehumidifier, sealed-system, airflow thermal management, or similar, design theory and application
  • 5+ years of experience with sheet metal solid modeling experience, preferably with SolidWorks
  • Supermarket refrigeration system overall understanding and component knowledge
  • Familiarity with tools and techniques necessary to meet industry standards for good refrigeration testing and analysis
  • ANSYS FEA/CFD experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
