Description / Position Overview

Sales Tax Supervisor
The purpose of this position is to manage and develop the City’s Sales Tax System. This is accomplished by assigning, directing and reviewing work of staff, overseeing the 3rd party software provider, identifying system errors and enhancements to create efficiencies, creating standard operating procedures, conducting audits to maintain accuracy and quality through processes. Other duties may include leading project meetings, providing educational resources and guidance to direct reports, resolving disputes, and authorizing purchases.

Essential Job Functions
- the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Manage staff by assigning and monitoring the work of staff members, providing direction, conducting meetings, completing performance reviews, and providing training
  • Schedule rotating work assignments to ensure the timely completion of all project plans and coordinate solutions to promote departmental efficiencies
  • Create educational resources to provide guidance to lower-level staff
  • Oversee and manage the development of the Sales Tax System by creating system requirements, process improvement workflows, and leading the project coordination
  • Prepare reports and conducts research by compiling monthly, quarterly, and annual data to track progress
  • Review systems or features updates and guides staff on all changes
  • Understand Sales Tax System testing structure to perform as-needed audits to ensure platform stability and correctness
  • Assist lower-level staff in mitigating or correcting systems errors as they arise
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate
Knowledge of and experience with:
  • Advanced software system design, implementation, and development
Ability to:
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy while working in a demanding and highly interactive team environment
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Explain and apply pertinent department policies and procedures
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Successful candidates will have

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business, finance or a related field
  • Five years of full-time professional tax collection, auditing, or accounting experience including one year of administrative or lead supervisory responsibility
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Experience working in a municipal government environment

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
