Safety Specialist Job at Stimson Lumber

Stimson Lumber Clatskanie, OR

Fuel allowance will be bumped up from $200 a month to $350 (or $175 per paycheck).

The Safety Specialist will work closely with the company’s Safety Manager to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety program for the Clatskanie facility. Additionally, they will provide leadership, direction and support to ensure all compliance items are met in a manner consistent with sound business practices.

Your responsibilities…

In partnership with the Safety Manager, develop and administer the facility Safety management systems including but may not be limited to: Employee participation, hazard analyses, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), risk management, emergency planning, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, contractor safety, OSHA record keeping and training.

Regulate compliance with safety requirements.

Inspect machines and other equipment for accident preventing.

Conduct assessments and implement the necessary communication pieces to advise employees of hazards.

Maintain a current working knowledge of Safety regulations and laws.

Develops and administers Safety training and communication programs. Including posting weekly safety updates on communication boards/site monitors, coordination of monthly round robin training topics, conducting new hire safety orientations, etc.

Provide leadership for the site safety committee and accident investigation team.

Record and investigate all incidents of injury, work related illness or damage to property, partnering with the necessary parties to resolve any identified corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.

Conduct monthly safety audits, partnering with necessary parties to resolve any corrective actions.

Administer site contractor safety training and track and maintain contractor insurance certificates.

Utilize an LMS system to both train and track compliance items.

Be a leader for the site safety committee and accident investigation team.

Required skills and abilities…

Knowledge of OSHA and other applicable industry safety standards.

Strong communication skills – both verbal and written as well as strong problem solving and decision making skills.

Able to understand and execute processes

Ability to develop and implement safety policies, programs, and training.

Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and LMS computer applications.

Knowledge of manufacturing practices and processes, prior lumber experience is a plus.

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all levels both in and outside the organization from corporate to plant management, supervisors and hourly employees as well as contractors.
