Safe Passages Extended Day School Based VISTA Job at AmeriCorps
Safe Passages is a non profit entity based in Oakland, CA that seeks to disrupt the cycle of poverty by engaging communities in the development of services including education, health and jobs. Safe Passages aims to integrate education and social services at school sites in order to make school communities catalysts for social change within the larger neighborhood context. To this end, the ED VISTA works as part of an integrated team at a school site to support the development of services and partnerships necessary to meet low income families basic needs, and socio-economic mobility. The VISTA will help secure community partnerships and volunteers to increase family engagement in their children’s education and secure the following resources: food security, housing, medical services, job training, adult education, job placement, financial literacy programs, parenting programs, education and recreational family activities.

Member Duties : Specific responsibilities relating to ED programs include: 1) the development of new partners for these programs, from community volunteers to corporate sponsorships; 2) the development of needed data tracking infrastructure such as contact information for families and streamlined systems for communications; 3) Support ED family engagement events.
