Resort Information:

Superior Shores Resort is the largest resort on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The highlight of our property is our thousands of feet of shoreline that our name pays tribute to. Our location is truly the gateway to the North Shore being the first resort after Two Harbors on Scenic Highway 61. Our resort offers lodging in 3 different properties overlooking two different bays and a cove. The resort is complimented by an expansive food & beverage program including a fine dining chophouse, multiple pools and fitness facilities as well as an array of amenities and offerings.

Executive summary of the position:

The successful candidate for Resort Manager will be required to create a new culture with the focus of five star service. Crucial success in this role will be derived from changing culture and implementing changes in service and attention to detail. Further success will be tied to the ability to manage operational budgets and adhere operations to the “norms” of the industry from food cost to par times in housekeeping. The successful manager will lead with the owner’s vision for the property and further transition the property to a 4 star plus resort with 5 star service.

Mission:

To execute the vision, procedures, and operational standards directed from hands on ownership resulting in the transition of the resort to a 4 star plus property with renowned appeal.

Job Description:

- Create new structure, training, and ongoing guidance for departmental managers to help transition the property to a higher service level and optimal quality operational performance within their departments

- Recruit and manage a successful top quality team of resort personnel

- Ensure all managers have the “tools” they need to be successful

- Successful implementation of the all new service standards drafted by the parent company North Shore Resort Company, this will be an immediate focus

- Another immediate focus will be working with the entire team to tackle “attention to detail”, comprehensive training is needed for this, further it really has to be a “from the top down” implementation. Buy in is needed at all levels.

- Daily “property walks”

- Oversee all departments and the associated departmental managers & leaders; accordingly to the organizational management chart

- Coordinate daily with the management team on an individual basis

- Hold and lead weekly management meetings

- Maintain operating budgets

- Maximize profitability, developing improvement actions, carry out costs savings

- Analyzes financial outcomes of all revenue centers on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually; working with ownership to continuously adjust or formulate tactics to deliver optimal flow rates in both good and bad economic conditions

- Work closely with accounting to ensure smooth financial operations and reporting

- Create and execute policies and procedures with ownerships approvals to create an optimum guest experience and the highest level of service possible

- Implement staff policies and procedures

- Oversee that the property meets all licencing and permit requirements at all times

- Create a guest centric and positive workplace culture that balances employees and the guests, we don’t have one without the other

- Oversee and management of associations and association needs

- Stay on top of industry trends and make sure the property excels ahead of the competitive set

- Balance of “office” versus “on the floor” management. It’s important to ownership that the Resort Manager is “on the ground” with the staff and guests to manage with full operational observations from the floor/ground level versus time spent in the office.

- Work with resort ownership to execute ownerships vision of the resort and continuously adapt to the changes needed or directed by ownership to carry out the vision for the property. Ownership is very involved and must be consulted with on a regular basis for approvals

Required skills, experience & attributes:

Candidate should possess:

- High level of energy

- Outgoing hospitable and sociable personality

- Strong work ethic

- Extensive history and previous management roles in the hospitality industry including food & beverage operations as well as accommodations. Familiarity with group sales/conferences and spa facilities an additional asset

- Related degrees and past continued education & courses pertaining to the hospitality industry an asset

Compensation:

Base Salary of $80,000 - $100,000 per annum based on experience
