Summary: Electricians report to an Electrical Supervisor or person designated by the Supervisor and complete assigned functions and taks in accordance with established Watson Electrical policies and procedures. Work will consist of installation, alterations , additions and/or repairs of electrical systems , conduit, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the commercial, industrial, and residential electrical construction industry.They assist in achieving their division s aims and goals and objectives while operating within the guidelines of the company. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

Must be able to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, perform a variety of duties which may change often. Must use reason and logic, perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately, have a complete understanding of construction drawings and details, recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings, and picture flat drawings as 3- dimensional objects.

  • Effectively supervise and work 4 or more electrician helper(s) as directed by the Supervisor or designated person with little to no supervision.
  • Accurately install conduit, wire, pre-fab assemblies, panelboards, light fixtures, devices, and other equipment per layout by the Supervisor or designated person.
  • Minimize waste of materials, assure quality of the installation (no re-dos), and be consistent with plans, specifications, local codes, and National Electrical Code.
  • Follow diagrams and blueprints to insure that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring are installed.
  • Measure, cut, thread, ream, assemble, and install conduit, using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender(s).
  • Pulling wire; splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or other means, twisting wires together, and applying terminal connectors and or tape.
  • Connect wiring to light fixtures, power equipment, motors, devices, and other electrical apparatus, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Test continuity of circuits, circuit wiring to insure compatibility and safety of components using test instruments.
  • Observe functions of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • May repair faulty equipment or systems
  • Complete required paperwork.
  • Monitor safety per Watson Safety Program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate efficient knowledge of the electrical construction trade.
  • Coordinate installation with other trades.
  • Plan work – responsible for materials and proper tools to get job done.
  • Trouble- shoot all electrical systems.

Position Requirements:

License: Current driver license if required by job conditions; applicable federal, state, and local license as required by job conditions or by the company.

Certifications: Applicable federal, state, and local certifications as required by job conditions or by the company.

Education: High School Graduate, holder of G.E.D. or equivalent Watson training.

Experience: 6-years of electrical experience required to ensure that aspects of the position are performed efficiently and productively while operating in accordance with policies and procedures of the company.

Working Conditions:

  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, or snow.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
  • Job requires employee to have required personal tools with him at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.).
  • Work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14 , A frame, all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12 step ladder by himself.
  • Employee s personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed the weight limit of the ladder.
  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90 from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
  • Work in restricted areas (switch gear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces and attics).
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required in Safety Handbook.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week, overtime as required, night shifts, and work out of town if needed.

Skills:

  • Positively identify colors of wire and other items as required.
  • Comprehend reading of construction blueprints, specifications, details, and schematics of same.
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  • Must have the ability to use safely the required power tools.
  • Must be able to safely operate equipment (trenchers, lift trucks, aerial lifts, etc.).
  • Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  • Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Handbook.
  • Operate two handed tools as required.
  • Operate company truck with manual and automatic transmission.
  • Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Operate and work from mechanical personal lifts (electric or gas powered).
  • Work energized circuits and equipment as outlined in the Company Safety Policy Manual.
  • Effectively supervise 4 or more assigned job site employees to complete task safely, productively, and assured quality with little to no supervision.
  • Must have National Electrical Code knowledge to prevent code violations and re-do work.
  • Must know local code requirements to prevent violations and re-do work.
  • Plan and schedule labor, materials, tools, equipment, etc. for best possible productivity with no re-do work.
  • Must be able to do a 2 week look ahead for task and future task.

Physical Function:

  • Must hear and see well (either natural or with correction).
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to constantly move on feet.
  • Climb ladders (all types).
  • Complete overhead work for a full day assignment.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking areas or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder, or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
  • Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned task.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
