Job Summary
The Research, Development & Partnerships (RDP) Manager is responsible for developing and managing collaborative partnerships with external entities in pursuit of expanding NiSource's interests in areas including the emerging clean molecular value chain, advanced energy delivery models and technology to advance end use energy efficiency. This includes, but is not limited to, pursuit of third parting funding, sourcing opportunities for pilot & demonstration projects, grant writing, and community engagement.
The RDP Manager also evaluates and monitors strategic opportunities and analyzes community impact in a systematic, repeatable way. Internally, the RDP Manager will partner with business leaders across the organization to identify and develop solutions for key business, operational and strategic problems for which either third party funding or partnerships could add value to NiSource.
The position will help strategically shape proposal opportunities for 3rd party funding, partner identification/teaming arrangements and relationship management.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership Engagement

Support the development and execution of a partnership strategy that aligns and supports the aspirations, commitments and business objectives of NiSource

Cultivate and nurture relationships with an external ecosystem of partners that include 3rd party funding agencies (federal, state and private), National Laboratories, Educational Institutions, Research Organizations, technology provides and other relevant entities

Be the primary interface for NiSource with 3rd party funding agencies including Department of Energy and other state agencies

Engage with and support broader Office of Strategy & Risk team, Regulatory, State Presidents, Federal Government Affairs and internal stakeholders on strategic positioning efforts

Responsible for overall NiSource approach to 3rd party funding
Initiative Portfolio Management

Support the development and maintenance of a portfolio of R&D projects and initiatives including technical studies, pilots and demonstration projects in partnership with external stakeholders that serve to advance NiSource strategic objectives

Support strategic and technical conceptualization of projects and initiatives by forming a partnership with internal and external stakeholders including the U.S. national laboratories and leading research universities

Track status of active initiatives and maintain pipeline of potential opportunities relevant to NiSource including grant opportunity announcements

Interface with project execution teams internally and externally to ensure project milestones and reporting requirements are met, including attending periodic project update meetings and documenting and reporting on progress

Attend relevant industry workshops and conferences to develop relationships with leading researchers and innovative technology companies
Required Qualifications for Position

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering or other quantitative field

Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external key stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster partnerships and ensure disciplined execution of business case evaluation processes

Demonstrated understanding of project/program planning and deployment

Demonstrated knowledge of regulated electric and gas business models and ability to understand clean energy technologies and their value proposition to NiSource

Demonstrated ability to apply strategic and critical thinking to problem solving

Solid written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate analysis into key messages and develop story line associated with projects

Proven ability to prepare and present material at all levels of the organization and to external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications for Position

Graduate degree or graduate level course work in Engineering, Science, Business Strategy, Business Administration or related field

Experience with Department of Energy (DOE) or other third party funded projects
