As Vision Rehabilitation Specialist , you will provide vision rehabilitation services to individuals who are 55 or older in their home or community in the areas of daily living skills, pre-cane travel skills, and social/emotional adjustment to vision loss. You will collaborate and consult with vocational rehabilitation counselors to provide services to clients with visual impairments who want to maintain their independence and employment. You will conduct presentations to educate organizations, businesses, and the community about available services through Vocational Rehabilitation.

To succeed in this position , you should be highly organized, able to manage your time and priorities effectively and have demonstrated ability to communicate with all types of people. You will be comfortable working with clients in their homes (may have steps, pets, and/or smoke) as well as conducting presentations to organizations, businesses, and the community. Approximately 60% of the time consists of daytime travel within eastern North Dakota with some overnight travel required. You must be willing and able to travel in addition to collaborating with team members in the office. You must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

To be considered for this position , you must hold rehabilitation teaching, orientation/mobility, special education, vocational rehabilitation, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, or counseling, AND completion of vision rehabilitation/vision special education course work and one year of work experience providing services to individuals with visual impairments. A master’s degree in one of the above fields with completion of vision rehabilitation/vision special education course work.

If unable to find qualified candidates, will consider filling as a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist I (4225), which requires a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation teaching, orientation/mobility, special education, vocational rehabilitation, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, or counseling.

ND DHS utilizes a blended workplace model . Depending on the role, employees may work from home, onsite, or both. This position will be located in Office and Remote as there is travel within the designated region required.
