TITLE: Rail Quality Control Inspector

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Control Inspector supports WMATA General Engineering Consulting Services Task Order to Audit / Oversee the performance of Periodic Inspections (PI’s) on passenger rail cars. Personnel to witness “Back-to-Back” measurements being taken by WMATA maintenance personnel. These measurements measure the distance between the inside surface of a wheel to the opposite wheel on that axle. There is a specific dimension with a tolerance that each wheel set must meet to return to service. If a measurement is found out of tolerance that car will be removed from service by WMATA personnel.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

This work will be performed in a pit with the car positioned on an overhead track and there are two pits per site which are adjacent to each other. Cars will be moved over the inspection area by WMATA personnel for the measurements to be taken. The Inspector is to witness the measurement being taken and verify the measured results are accurately recorded.

• Witness Back-to-Back measurements the entire actual measurement process of each axel, regardless of the tool being used for the measurement.
• Inspectors shall record the measurement which they witness.
• Inspectors shall compare his/her recorded measurement with the measurement taken and recorded by the WMATA CMNT employee performing the measurement.
• Records must be scanned into WMATA’s database and sent to a mailbox (address to be provided by WMATA) before completion of the shift.
• Provide quality inspection support to WMATA, and as assigned by the WMATA Project Manager
• Work with operation personnel, supervisors, and managers to achieve quality and production goals
• Ensure work is performed in accordance with WMATA’s official maintenance documentation.

These services will be performed in (3) shifts at WMATA’s Service Yards located at:

• WMATA Shady Grove Rail Yard 15903 Somerville Drive, Rockville, MD 20855

• WMATA New Carrollton Rail Yard 4700 Garden City Dr, New Carrollton, MD 20784

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS/REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrate analytical ability, judgment, discretion and personal responsibility. Minimum requirement for each candidate is:

• High School graduate
• Dependable and able to support meeting deadlines
• Understanding of shop practices and safety precautions
• Good written and verbal skills
• Comfortable standing for long periods of time
• Able to work in close quarters
• Knowledge of basic math
• Can use special tools for measurement purposes

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37.00 - $42.00 per hour
