Responsibilities


  • Leads efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g., design, cost). Creates proposals for architecture and design documents and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions. Shares and acts on findings from investigations, owns design decisions, and oversees team members. Leads the development of design documents for designs or User Stories and determines the technology that will be leveraged and how they will interact.
  • Independently creates and mentors’ others for a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring the quality of solutions, and defines success for outcomes of tests (e.g., unit tests).
  • Leads by example and mentors’ others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products. Leads efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leads efforts to apply knowledge of debugging tools, logs, telemetry, and other methods, and leads verification of assumptions through writing and developing code proactively before issues occur and reactively as issues occur across products. Leverages minimal telemetry data, triangulates issues, and resolves with minimal iterations. Leads retrospective debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.
  • Reviews the code of a product to assure it meets the team's and Microsoft’s quality standards, is reliable and accurate, and is appropriate for the scale of the product/solution area.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of the business to design a data model that is appropriate for the project and translates business requirements into design specification documents to model the flow and storage of data across multiple data pipelines. Uses knowledge of dependencies across projects to expand capabilities of the data model to solve business problems. Leads conversations with stakeholders (e.g., Data Science Specialists) to make iterative improvements to design specifications, data models, or data schemas, so that data is easy to connect, ingest, has a clear lineage, and is responsive to work with.
  • Participates in regular design and development planning sessions and evaluating both existing and emerging technologies, delivering POCs and evaluating needs for service modernization and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and subject-matter experts to drive project plans, release and comprehensive application of automation deployment and smooth operation.
  • Mentors team members, pair program, participate in code reviews, and delegate work to encourage professional and technical growth of those around you.
  • Maintains operation of live services as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years’ experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 4+ Years of experience with big data ETL pipeline development with related technologies including, but not limited to, Spark and Scala.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
  • 6+ years’ experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work
  • 2+ years of experience with software engineering experience shipping production apps or services using SQL Server and Azure SQL DB .
  • 1+ years of experience in building financial systems.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
