Phlebotomist Full time, Part time and PRN BBC
As a phlebotomist, you will perform pre-analytical or post-analytical functions in the laboratory. You are expected to collect the correct types of specimens per instructions on the label and available reference materials. You’re expected to respond to STATS and other priorities per policy and return specimens to the laboratory in an acceptable time frame. You will be expected to maintain regular communication with peers and charge personnel. You will provide continual quality assurance by checking for accuracy of test ordering.
As a phlebotomist, you must be sensitive to your patient's right to privacy and dignity at all times. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Some of your responsibilities include:
- Collect specimen by venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages.
- Collect the correct types of specimens per instructions on the label and available reference materials.
- Perform EKG’s and specialized testing that may include sweat chloride, bleeding time, NP swabs.
- Access and process testing to be sent to reference laboratories. Release results to hospital information systems and physicians.
- Answer department telephones, contact nurses, physicians and patients. Required to clarify orders or request a recollection of specimens.
- Use the LIS for accurate order entry and cancellation of testing as appropriate.
- Help orient new employees to the department LIS
- Accesses the LIS to obtain specimen requirements.
- Provides order entry of testing into LIS Accession
- Look up patient prior to draw for inpatients to determine that all testing is accounted for.
- May function as an accession technician with demonstrated competency. Required for some job assignments.
Working Requirements
- Duties may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT, up to 40 percent of the time.
- Must be proficient in the use of Mysis Laboratory information system.
- Must be able to access star for collection lists.
- Must be able to independently collect specimens.
- Must have basic knowledge of biology, chemistry and mathematics (sufficient to measure and calculate metric quantities).
- Must provide exceptional patient care.
- Must demonstrate excellent human relation skills, including verbal and written communication, problem solving and assertiveness.
- Must demonstrate a positive attitude, have customer service orientation and provide service recovery where appropriate.
- Must demonstrate flexibility and be able to work in a changing environment.
- Must be able to regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 20 pounds), and occasionally assist with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling or otherwise handling material, equipment and other objects.
- Work may require high levels of mental/visual fatigue, as typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines.
