  • POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Delivery Driver for Effingham Builders Supply is to take over the road loads to our customer jobsites on an EBS trailer, assist in the unloading at the jobsites and place material where instructed by the contractor. The Delivery Driver will be the face of customer service for the business. Professionalism is essential within this position.

The Delivery Driver will support office administration through data recording and reporting.

The Delivery Driver will be paid based on the calculated mileage for the delivery and return to Effingham. The Delivery Driver will also receive a per diem for each of the overnight travel days. The length of the round trip runs for the Delivery Drivers could range between one to eight days from leaving the domicile to the return to the domicile: while averaging four days.

  • REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Delivery Driverreports to the Commercial Sales Manager. While the Delivery Driver does not report to the Operations Manager directly, the Delivery Driver must have good communication and follow the guidance of the Operations Manager when applicable.

High School graduate or equivalent

  • Experience

The Delivery Driver’s position is an entry level position for candidates with one or more years of driving commercial vehicles with a Class C license. Effingham Builders Supply will train all candidates to the business’s need. Experience in the following areas would be considered a plus:

  • Commercial Delivery
  • Maintaining a DOT driver’s log
  • Driving with a trailer
  • Off-loading of products to make deliveries
  • Skill, Knowledge and Abilities

The role requires a valid Driver’s License with a DOT Physical Card. Knowledge of handling building materials are a plus for this role. Communication skills (both internally and externally) are a must. The communication skills needed are both spoken and written words. Having the ability to follow the assigned route is required within this role. On-the-job training will be provided.

  • Physical

Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a company truck. The role requires the dexterity to frequently step up into the driver’s cab and to dismount from the driver’s cab. Able to work within the small space of trailers.

The Delivery Driver role will require removing items from the truck while standing on the ground. This approach will lead to the extension of the arms at shoulder height or above.

The Delivery Driver must also have the ability to walk on surfaces that are uneven, slick or slippery from weather conditions or from the pooling of substances due to uneven surfaces.

The Delivery Driver will additionally be required to:

  • Submit to a pre-employment drug screen
  • Being subject to random drug and alcohol screening
  • Be a holder of a current DOT Physical Card and to keep it updated annually
  • Mental

The Delivery Driver should be someone that can handle multiple situations simultaneously. With multiple situations surrounding them on the road at any given time the Delivery Driver will need to maintain a defensive driving approach while operating the assigned truck. The Delivery Driver would also be required to maintain an accurate recording of the mileage and time of stops made on individual days and for the week to keep an updated DOT log. The Delivery Driver will be confronted with the need to handle potentially stressful situations getting materials delivered to a jobsite on time and safely.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Climate

The Delivery Driver will work in elements that are common to various geographical regions. These include but are not limited to extreme heat and cold temperatures. The Delivery Driver should also be prepared to work in various weather conditions like rain, snow, sleet, hail, high winds, etc.

  • Travel

This role requires daily travel. Overnight stays are common. Cell phone usage is not permitted while driving a company vehicle unless a Bluetooth device is being used. If Bluetooth is unavailable, then pull over and stop before making your call.

Even then cell phone use should be limited and limited to business related calls.

  • Hours

The schedule for the Delivery Drivers varies and depends solely on the coordinated delivery date with our customer. This availability will be on a rotating basis with our other over the road drivers. The driving hours per day will be based on the active driving time and rest as required by the DOT. There could be exceptions to this schedule from time to time.

This position will be on the road for eight to twelve days per month minimally.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Essential Functions of the Delivery Driver are:

  • Deliver products and materials
  • Verify that the items delivered match the delivery ticket
  • Perform physical deliveries at any location that they are assigned to go to
  • Complete both internal and external paperwork requirements and to submit them on the date of the transaction completely and accurately (or first day back into Effingham), which also includes the submission of receipts
  • AUTHORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Delivery Driver is AUTHORIZED to:

  • To use a company credit card for truck and route related purposes on long haul deliveries
  • To communicate with contractors throughout the course of completing the assignment that was given to the Delivery Driver

The Delivery Driver is RESPONSIBLE for:

  • Meeting the schedule that is assigned to them to complete on-time deliveries
  • Support the efficiency of the Effingham Builders Supply Office Staff through the timely, complete and accurate submittals of all paperwork
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of all company owned equipment that they operate
  • Complete prior to exiting the business’s yard a Pre-Trip Inspection for the truck that they will be taking out of the business’s yard
  • For any citations that are not related to the condition of the company vehicle that they are driving
  • Verifying the counts on what is loaded on truck with the ticket
  • Securing all loads, and checking that they are secured properly before driving truck
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date logbooks and vehicle inspection reports
  • Authorizing EBS annually to complete background check for insurance coverage
  • DUTIES AND TASKS
  • Promote a positive image of the business
  • Travel in most efficient paths while working to shorten the drive time of the delivery routes
  • Maintaining discretion and confidentiality of communications with employees within the business and contacts outside of the business
  • To insist on providing all the agreed to components of the agreement between customers and the business
  • Inform the Commercial Sales Manager timely of concerns, contradictions, and complaints regarding any job
  • Timely advancing external communications to the responsible internal point of contact
  • Inform the Operations Manager timely of concerns or issues with the trucks
  • Be prepared to go the extra mile for contractors at jobsites by doing more than required or asking if they need anything else
