Under general supervision, develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates public health education, promotion programs and community outreach activities; performs related work as assigned.

Typical Duties

  • Plans, develops and presents health education and training programs and lessons
  • Evaluates programs
  • Develops and/or revises curriculum modules as necessary
  • Participates in the development of marketing and promotional goals and strategies
  • Refers clients to other support services such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services, as appropriate
  • Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials
  • Maintains current knowledge based on specific health issues, particularly in area of expertise
  • Coordinates and collaborates with community-based organizations, public agencies, coalitions, schools and other appropriate facilities to implement the health education programs
  • Maintains accurate records, data, and documentation of all program results for program updating and evaluation
  • May assist in the coordination of activities of consultants, subcontractors, agencies, schools, and other providers involved in specific programs
  • May assist in writing grant proposals and identifying funding for programs
  • May lead, guide and train staff/student employees, interns and/or volunteers performing related work
  • May conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable laws
  • May participate in the recruitment of volunteers or interns
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with major coursework in health education or a closely related field and one year of professional health education or health promotion experience or experience in a public health department; OR

Associate's degree with major coursework in health education or a closely related field and two years of professional health education or health promotion experience or experience in a public health department; OR

Three years of professional health education or health promotion experience or experience in a public health department; OR

Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report. Fingerprint clearance may be required.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing relationships with community partners, working with coalitions, establishing trust with vulnerable communities, and a basic understanding of promoting health strategies without stigmatizing individuals.

Preferred qualifications: Master's Degree in public health or related field; Experience working in public health: Experience leading/working in coalitions; Experience working with vulnerable communities


This position is safety sensitive.

This position is exempt from overtime.

Note: Individuals in exempt classifications as part time employees may be classified as non-exempt per FLSA law regarding minimum weekly salary requirements.
