Position Summary:

The Meat & Seafood Manager is responsible for delivering strong outcomes that model integrity, build trust and align with the mission, vision, and values of our co-op. This position oversees the preparation of a variety of meat and seafood products, with an emphasis on quality cuts, local, natural, organic, free-range products, and humanely treated animals to meet the objectives for sales growth and margin contributions.

Specific areas of accountability include customer service, team leadership, food and staff safety, operations, purchasing and merchandising, and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and customers. This position is also responsible for collaborating with Mississippi Markets administrative functions (HR, Finance, Marketing, Purchasing) to ensure strong organizational alignment and communications.

Who We're Looking For...

  • Meat & Seafood: direct experience with meat and seafood, including processing, production, and merchandising duties
  • Team Leadership: supervisory experience including hiring, training, development, performance management, and team building
  • Coaching: experience coaching staff to positive outcomes
  • Customer Service: experience providing prompt and respectful customer service, going "above and beyond" to delight customers
  • Safety: demonstrated knowledge and track record of meeting food and staff safety standards and following best practices
  • Process Management: experience working with others to design and implement processes and/or systems, process evaluation and improvement
  • Communication: demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with customers and staff in a responsive and caring manner
  • Conflict Management: demonstrated ability to resolve conflict respectfully, effectively, and fairly
  • "Can-Do-Attitude": demonstrates a positive, adaptable, and flexible attitude with a strong commitment to being a team player
  • Basic Math: ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry Knowledge: knowledge of food/meat/animal science and nutrition
  • Financial Accounting: demonstrated understanding of financial statements including P&L (sales, margin)
  • Budgeting: Experience scheduling and managing labor
  • Computer Skills: basic computer skills including ability to draft and upload documents, email, and navigate Excel spreadsheets
  • Multilingual

Schedule: Shifts may vary, and can include day, evening, and holiday hours to meet department needs. Flexibility required.

Essential Job Functions:

This position requires frequent standing as well as walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching, stooping, pulling, fine motor manipulation, lifting of up to 50lbs consistently and up to 70lbs occasionally, ability to work in cold and wet environment (temperatures ranging from -10oF to 35oF) and the ability to move around our store and storage rooms with or without reasonable accommodation. Will be required to handle meat, seafood, dairy and other animal products.
