Summary

The Glassell School of Art builds imagination, creativity, and understanding of human expression through programs and classes for people of all ages and at all skill and experience levels. The School has been the teaching arm of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, for nearly 100 years. Now with new leadership, the Glassell School is set to embark on a major effort toward growth in enrollment over the coming five years. To achieve this, the school must be positioned and championed by a skilled Marketing Manager. The Museum will depend on the Marketing Manager to pursue both digital marketing and person-to-person outreach, building awareness of the School in Houston, the region, and nationally. Glassell is comprised of four distinct areas: Junior School, Studio School, the Core Residency program, and grant-driven special projects. The person who fills this new role will market all four areas and will report both to the Director of the Glassell School and to the Head of Marketing and Sales.

Responsibilities

  • Gain immediate understanding of the Glassell School current enrollment and plans for the future, including the combining of the Junior School and Studio School into One Glassell, plus the five-year trajectory for increasing enrollment and revenue
  • Build enrollment and engagement in all four distinct areas of the school: Junior School, Studio School, the Core Residency program, and grant-driven special projects
  • Gain understanding of the Marketing Department’s visual and editorial guidelines and day-to-day operations, and plug into meetings and conversations to work with internal team members
  • Work with the Director of the Glassell School and the Head of Marketing to create a renewed direction for outreach and promotion in the coming year; create a comprehensive plan that reaches artists interested in the Core residency program, Houston adults interested in studio classes, and parents of children and teenagers who will attend Junior School classes
  • Develop promotional materials to support programs at the school
  • Ensure accuracy of all informational across channels by working both with Glassell School staff and Marketing team members
  • Create Glassell School content for Museum emails that are branded appropriately and in line with MFAH standards
  • Create Glassell School social media, ensuring coordination with other MFAH social media directions
  • Build bank of Glassell School images and b-roll; capture images and videos of students and faculty engaged in creative efforts, both through ongoing presence in classrooms and through professional photo shoots
  • Build a network of contacts within schools and universities as part of local and national outreach efforts
  • Attend arts or educational events or fairs to promote the Glassell School
  • Coordinate all promotional efforts around special Glassell School projects
  • Track success in driving potential students to the MFAH website, and create reports regarding marketing efforts and analytics
  • Study and understand the needs of our underrepresented communities to help ensure we are meeting those needs organizationally, programmatically and operationally;
  • Create marketing and outreach KPI’s so we can best evaluate our performance, provide better informed proposals, justifications and decisions, and establish forward thinking benchmarks and goals;

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, with preference for Marketing or Communications emphasis, or an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with marketing, promotions, or advertising
  • Practiced (and successful) analytical and problem-solving abilities

Reports to: DUO: Director of Glassell School and Head of Marketing and Sales

Classification: Exempt/Salaried

Schedule: 35 hour work week – 9 am to 5 pm

Pay Rate: DOE

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work will primarily be performed in an office environment. Work will involve extended sitting and computer use. The MFAH provides a generous schedule for time off under the following benefit categories:

  • Reserve Time Off - Used for extended illnesses. Employees accrue up to 6 days per year, up to a maximum of 120 days
