Market Leader Job Summary
The Market Leader is responsible to for leading and directing the business development of Westfield Bank’s commercial loans and business deposit services for assigned market areas. Develops and implements strategic plan that allows the market to exceed the bank’s targeted Return on Required Capital. Utilizes models and tools to build relationships and maximize profitability. Works with team to create and design flexible commercial lending solutions.


Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
1. Leads and directs the business development of Westfield Bank’s commercial loans and business deposit services for assigned market areas.
2. Develops and implements strategic plan for Commercial Loan and Business Deposit growth within designated market
3. Utilizes loan pricing model to establish and maintain business relationships that meet or exceed the bank’s Return on Required Capital (RORC).
4. Utilizes bank tools (e.g. I-Dashboard) to manage and improve profitability of the Market.
5. Utilizes experience and knowledge to help team create and design flexible commercial lending solutions for customers.
6. Assists lenders with both screening and underwriting decisions.
7. Networks within the business/civic communities to create new sales and business development opportunities for the full range of Westfield Bank services.
8. Establishes and maintains strong working relationship with other bank departments/employees.
9. Performs human capital management responsibilities including employee selection, performance management, coaching, and development. Manages priorities and workload distribution, and removes barriers that impede progress. Completes all personnel, salary administration, and reporting duties. Performs operational responsibilities that drive team performance including planning, execution, process improvement and best-practice sharing.
10. Identifies Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) opportunities within the Market.
11. Serves as a key player in making the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program operate effectively. Manages business unit risk and identifies key risk areas for the Bank by evaluating magnitude and probability of the potential impact to Bank strategy, goals and business decisions.
12. Constructs, prepares, and presents financial reports and credit summary memos that comply with bank standards.
13. May resolve difficult client situations involving the collection of delinquent loans.
14. Works with Portfolio Managers and holds entire team accountable for production, line renewals, financial statement collection, delinquencies, and overall portfolio management.
15. Continually looks for opportunities to proactively upgrade and improve bank administrative processes, technology, automation, and controls.
16. Maintains awareness, understanding, and compliance with the Bank's internal policies and procedures, laws, and regulations appropriate for this position.
17. Provides assistance in response to regulatory and internal/external audit requests.
18. Travels as needed in order to perform other essential functions.


Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)
1. 7 or more years’ experience in commercial/business bank lending.
2. 2 or more years’ leadership experience.
3. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
4. Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of management, employee population, and external customers.
5. Experience leading others and building strong teams.
6. Proven ability to display a high level of initiative via an entrepreneurial spirit.
7. Detail orientation, multi-tasking, analytical, and problem solving skills.
8. Experience using Microsoft Windows and Office (especially Excel and Word) or similar software packages.
9. Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.
