Supports Safety and Environmental initiatives across all shifts. Supports the initiatives of the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager. Recognizes, evaluates, and mitigates environmental, health, and safety risks, while promoting a positive safety culture. Works closely with team members, supervisors, and management. Investigates occupational accidents, analyses their causes to prevent them. Co-operates with plant and corporate leadership in the field of occupational health and safety. Ensures training for employees entering work areas of the organization.

  • Leads the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal rules related to environmental, health, and safety across all shifts.

  • Ensures chemical safety compliance, including updates to the online safety management system, on-demand safety training system, and the SDS online database.

  • Advises supervisors of safety compliance concerns and preventive actions.

  • Conducts safety orientation.

  • Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety practices.

  • Ensures maintenance of safety files and records.

  • Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of identified findings, and makes recommendations for corrective or preventive measures.

  • Leads post-accident investigations and reports on identified causes or contributing factors and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.

  • Assists in the development, evaluation and updating of safety programs.

  • Assists with and maintains environmental reports including storm water permits, etc.

  • Plans, coordinates, supports, and ensures the success of safety committee meetings.

  • Participates in audits and ensures cross functional audit completion

  • Conducts OSHA compliance audits and safety field audits (lockout/tag out, fall protection, etc.).

  • Assists contractors with safety during turnarounds and plant expansion programs.

  • Conducts routine and non-routine inspections and work site assessments.

  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, supervisory and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to operate independently and in multi-discipline teams.

  • Must demonstrate participative problem solving, project management and continuous improvement skills.

  • Advanced organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Preferred, experience in a lean manufacturing environment.

  • Possibility of minimal travel.

  • Minimum 2 years in safety related role

  • Associates degree in safety or bachelor’s degree in related field.
