DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
GBH Finance Department is responsible for establishing and maintaining the internal financial control structure and environment that enables GBH and affiliated entities to comply with all the applicable laws, regulations, and policies. This encompasses the various business needs of GBH, including the following functions: financial reporting and analysis, payroll, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, and maintenance of the general ledger.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Manager of Revenue Recognition functions reports to the Assistant Controller. The principal objective of the position is to serve as the subject matter expert in revenue recognition and film asset accounting for the Foundation, and to drive the efficient and effective management of accounting related to revenue, accounts receivable, unbilled receivables, deferred revenue, and film assets. The Manager of Revenue Recognition will supervise a revenue accountant and will collaborate with other members of the GL team, grants and production finance managers, business unit managers and budget, and members of the accounts receivable and cash teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and review the appropriate recognition and reconciliation of all revenue streams in the general ledger
  • Write internal memos supporting the Foundation’s position on technical accounting matters relating to revenue recognition and/ or film asset accounting
  • Discuss technical accounting matters pertaining to revenue recognition with the auditors
  • Promote consistency in the treatment of accounting transactions throughout the Foundation
  • Support the monthly, quarterly and year-end closes.
  • Supervise the revenue accountant’s management of the Workday Customer Contracts revenue recognition process, including holding meetings with key business unit personnel, reviewing monthly reconciliations to the general ledger, and reviewing reconciliations of Workday records to PIM for completeness.
  • Review monthly entries and/or Workday processes including schedules and allocations relating to accounts receivable, grants receivable, bad debt, unbilled receivables, rent, deferred revenues and revenue using Workday data.
  • Review account reconciliations for the above-mentioned accounts and other areas as needed on a monthly basis. Responsibilities will include both GBH and NEPM related accounts, as applicable.
  • Provide additional analyses relating to receivables, deferred revenue and revenue or other areas deemed necessary based on business needs.
  • Lead the execution of the Annual Financial Report (“AFR”) to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting by reviewing files, and conducting meetings with senior leadership to review the report and results.
  • Assist in year-end audit requests and agreed upon procedures (AFR) requests, as needed.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects, as needed, including the implementation of film asset accounting in Workday.
SKILL SET
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong Excel skills required.
  • Workday experience is a plus, but not required.
  • NFP revenue experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Possess strong analytical, technical, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with multiple departments simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with internal controls over accounting and financial reporting.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Possesses strong ethics and acts with integrity.
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely work products when working under pressure.
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion with information, as appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting required. CPA preferred. Minimum of 5 years related work experience in the Accounting field. Must have experience in accounting either in an audit, departmental or central office setting.
