Maintenance Technician Apprentice

The Land O’Lakes Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship program provides students an opportunity to learn valuable skills on the job, while currently enrolled in a 2 year program. The Apprentice (Maintenance Technician) will perform preventative maintenance and repair work on production equipment and facility systems at a Land O’Lakes manufacturing location.

Job duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Primary Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant processing equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements and adhering to the schedule.
  • Accurately document and capture work and parts into JDE E1 system.
  • Maintain work area, tools and shop equipment in a clean and functional manner
  • Maintain maintenance logs accurately and neatly
  • Make recommendations to reduce and improve maintenance work wherever feasible; assuring efficient and productive operation of plant, process and equipment; while protecting and prolonging the economic life of plant assets; all at the least (optimal) cost practical
    • Follow 1QMS guidelines through monitoring and verification
    • Communicate quality concerns to appropriate personnel regarding defective product in timely manner
    • Complete safety requirements as described per plant location
    • Perform additional duties within the department or plant as scheduled or requested

  • Qualifications:
  • Current student seeking an associates degree or higher in a maintenance, electrical or related field at Ivy Tech Community College
  • Prior manufacturing experience or mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn the plant and develop skills through on the job and assigned training.
  • Must have skills to properly explain equipment, product quality, or production issues to maintenance, lab, or other production personnel during pre-shift meetings, at shift hand off, and during your shift.

  • Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing, working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy machinery. The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms. Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty. Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive and collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends. At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required. The ability to perform these requirements is necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
