Trolley Maintenance & Restoration Lead Mechanic /Foreman

McKinney Avenue Transit Authority - 3153 Oak Grove Avenue, Dallas, TX

The McKinney Avenue Transit Authority is seeking an experienced and resourceful lead mechanic /Foreman to lead the maintenance and restoration of vintage streetcars (trolleys). The streetcar fleet consists of 7 vehicles that operate 365 days a year.

This is a unique and rewarding position for the right candidate interested in working on the maintenance and restoration of antique trolley vehicles built in the early to mid-1900’s.

Position responsibilities include:

-Assist the Director of Maintenance with all aspects of the maintenance operations.

Direct the daily activities of 4-6 shop mechanics and woodworkers.

- Assist with all inspections and maintenance of streetcars and ensure they are performed per procedures and with the highest level of quality and safety.

- Manage maintenance activities to ensure trolleys are operational and available for continuous service.

- Direct and assist with troubleshooting and repairs of electric motors, axles, brakes, suspension, and controller equipment.

- Direct the maintenance, repairs and refinishing of trolley interiors.

- Maintain accurate records and timely schedules of all work performed.

Other Requirements:

- Lead activities of shop personnel, evaluate performance and address issues.

- Provide expertise, training, and guidance to less experienced mechanics.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Good level of knowledge repairing motors, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment.

- Knowledge of fabricating wood and sheet metal parts.

- Good judgment and professionalism.

- Report to work on time and perform the duties of the position

- Learn and follow company policies and regulations.

- Must pass background, drug & alcohol screening.

Preferred qualifications:

- 7 or more years of experience in train/rail/streetcar equipment maintenance or equivalent experience in bus/truck/automotive repairs.

- 3 or more years of experience managing others.

- Mechanical and/or woodworking expertise.
- Experience with a variety of metal and woodworking hand and power tools.
