ABOUT THE POSITION: The Machinist/Fabricator is responsible for safe creation of machine parts/weldments from various materials according to engineering drawings. In addition to the safe operation of all machinery, the candidate will have a good understanding of measuring close tolerances and will have good blueprint reading skills. The candidate will be able to demonstrate safe setup of machining jobs both large and small. The candidate will have a basic knowledge of welding or be willing to learn. Frequent travel to Burnham plant to trouble shoot machinery issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Accurate and Timely machining of jobs that come to the shop.
  • Self-Inspection/Measuring of parts made before submitting
  • Maintenance & Care of shop equipment and tooling.
  • Inform supervisor or lead person as soon as possible of any material defects or low stock quantities that would prevent job completion.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Miscellaneous duties assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Previous experience in machining
  • Previous experience in welding
  • Good understanding of tooling requirements and principles
  • Good understanding of close tolerance measurements
  • Good blueprint reading skills
  • CAD/CAM skills a plus

SKILLS/PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mathematical skills
  • Ability to learn how wood lathes operate
  • Ability and willingness to operate a forklift
  • Self-starter who can motivate others
  • Production and quality minded with good communication and prioritizing skills
  • Must work well alone and as a team
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to remain organized and focused in a fast-paced work environment
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Must be safety minded. Use proper body mechanics and proper lifting techniques. Always wear hearing protection, safety shoes, and safety glasses. Never put your fingers or any other body part into a running machine. Always keep area clean to ensure there is no debris on the floor that could cause you or anyone else to fall.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with team members,
  • Must be able to safely navigate the production facility, OSHA compliant. Appropriate shoes for standing on concrete flooring is recommended.
  • Ability to work on feet all day
  • Ability to work at a moving belt
  • Ability to lift, push/pull 75 lbs.
  • Ability to walk on cement an entire shift

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works in manufacturing environment. The noise level in the facility is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required and supplied.
